Quillback Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 They are really biting. Top water early, then I switched to 3.3 Keitechs and swing jigs with Menace Grubs, with a handful on a shaky head. Yesterday they didn't like the Keitechs but they were back after them today. I switched from Rainbow Shad to Sexy Shad with a chartreuse jig head, don't know if it was the color change or the fish decided they liked Keitechs again, but they were after them today. Quite a few of the bigger female spots were staging on points leading into coves along with a few keeper size largemouth. There are also fish in the coves. Seems like most fish are within casting distance of the bank. Gravel is holding some. Caught a crappie that almost went 15" and a couple of just short walleye to boot. Quillback Posted April 9, 2019 Author Posted April 9, 2019 Forgot to add, something I saw that I never saw before - Had a 12"spot on, saw about 8 fish chasing him in, thought it was a bunch of spots, but when I got the bass close I could see that they were all big gizzard shad. Only thing I can think is they (the shad) thought that bass was one of their own doing some sort of spawning maneuver. Daryk Campbell Sr, MOsmallies, magicwormman and 1 other 4
BilletHead Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Way to go Jeff and thanks for the reports. Love the way you lay out and photograph the fish with the rule. No doubt the size. 96 CHAMP Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Nice fish for sure, wish I could get down but out of commission for this spring, what size weight you throw when throwing that swing jig Quill, a light one and working it through the water column or a heavier one and bouncing it along the bottom? The swing jig is one very deadly and versatile set up Quillback and Johnsfolly 1 1

Jeff you have got to get tired of all that fishing. You should go get a part time job to keep from getting bored buddy😁! Just kidding. Would love to be able to get out as often. Keep posting those reports so that us desk jockies have some break time reading material and photos to dream about. magicwormman, Daryk Campbell Sr and liphunter 3
