Glad you guys are ok. I run way too fast at night on Beaver. I need to check the laws here as well.  Great reminder that I need to be more careful.

I had a rigid industries light that mounted to my Fortrex on my last boat. My newer boat has nav lights on the nose that would be blocked if I put it on my ultrexx. That light was great for pulling into an area and looking at the bank or looking for debris in the water. I used it sparingly but I’d rather get a ticket for having it on than hitting someone or something.

We enjoy sitting out on our deck after dark when it cools off a little and watching the ISS go over, star and moon-gazing and what's going on out on the Lake. 

For gosh sakes be careful out there while night fishing because we have been seeing numbers of pleasure boats and jet-skis running without lights well after dark and have no idea whether the operators are just stupid or stupid drunk. 

Last night was a classic when a boat headed out of Baxter about 9:30 with no Nav or Anchor lights on at high speed down the Lake.  We couldn't figure out what the strange glow in the water was back under the boat's transom and swim-deck and finally realized he/she had one of those boats equipped with some kind of underwater lighting and that's what they had turned on and that was all.  That boat was one of six we saw passing by with no lights just last night alone....

This is what we get with no enforcement of the laws and navigation rules on our waterways now days. There will be loss of life sooner or later due to pure disregard of these laws. There was talk here awhile back of separating the highway patrol back in 2 divisions again which I agree they to be to get more full time officers out on the water at all hours patrolling our waterways.

When you take a state trooper out of hie air conditioned and heated car and put him on a lake. I think he resents it. Besides he is not accustomed to it and does not wants to do it either. . Maybe they choose whoever has to ride the boat  like some punishment S____ detail. So he is going to shirk more than enforce. In the days when there were two you had  brunch of patrolmen that were on the water because thats what they chose to be. Most of them had been in and around boats their whole life. I only seen one patrolman in the Gravois this whole weekend and have yet to see the coast guard anytime since they announced they were going to CLEAN UP LOZ..  When you look at the number of BWI cases they charging I firmly believe the whole law enforcement deal is nothing more than a sham. They are controlled by the legestature who is controlled by money. And in turn really it is the money that makes the enforcement

Well I’ll tell you a buddy of mine’s son is tasked with the Clinton area, he’s a vet, ex marine Corp MP, he carried a high security clearance, got out of the service, went to school to be a cop, then the highway patrol, it’s been my honor to know him since he was a toddler...I can tell you he isn’t like anything you posted, high character, hard working, high moral fiber.

Most are good, but....the problem with a bad (or improperly trained) LEO is that their co-workers and supervisors will denounce their parents and their religion before they will DO THE RIGHT THING.

And IMO that makes them all bad.  But I understand, because as a LEO you either go along/play along.....or you loose your job and have no future in "law enforcement".

MoCarp, I bet your buddy's son knows a dirty or enept co-worker or three and does nothing to stop them from negatively effecting citizens, other than maybe he won't sit at a table with them.

The standards held by the patrol are extremely high, it isn’t easy to get in and they are tasked with all the crimes a state (fbi) would do, not just writing traffic or boating tickets.. for the life of me I don’t understand the hate of law enforcement when if something happens those same people come crying...you have been perfectly clear on you doing what you want laws be darn “common sense “ I think you said...

Bright lights at night DO disrupt navigation. It makes it impossible to see the required navigation lights, which makes it impossible to see which direction the other boat with bright lights is actually going. In addition it hampers other boaters night vision. The water is not the road. Bright lights do reflect off the surface, there are no lanes, and there are no signs. Using a spotlight or docking lights momentarily is fine. Running with them on continuous is not, and it’s illegal. High beams help motorist see on the Hwy, but it’s illegal to just leave them on all the time. “Common sense” would be I can see better with high beams so “I” will just leave them on. Heck, why not install a couple KC flood lights on your truck and just leave those on driving down the Hwy, think of how good you could see. “Common sense, right?” Neither is boating with anything other then prescribed navigation lights.
