decided to give eagle rock a shot last night and got reminded why i avoid that area this time of the year.  caught half a dozen dinks.  went up to the state line and fished my way back to roaring river.  on the electronics especially the further downstream you came, there was a band of clutter 15 to 20 ft. in depth .  it started in the water column around 15 ft.  don't know that was supposed to be telling me about fish positioning.  weird is all i can say about that.

on another note, the corp has taken it upon itself to block off all boat parking by the ramp.  so you have to put your boat in, tie up the the crappie courtesy dock, which most of the side protectors are gone, and while you drive back to the highway to park your trailer and hike all the way back to the ramp, your boat is getting bounced up and down and the exposed metal on the crappie dock is gouging holes in the gell coat on your boat.  who the hell are the idots running the corp?????  they are the ones that started the whole issue with the crappie parking there to begin with when they stuffed the camping areas down on top of the launching ramp.  there used to be ample parking by the ramp without blocking the road to maneuver back around down the ramp.  people unfamiliar with the situation unknowingly, to them, do not pull up far enough and their trailer is blocking everything off.  is the corp just trying to block lake access to the tax payers that paid for the lake and all of the ramps to begin with???????  seems like we need to have a public forum with the corp and have a come to Jesus meeting and remind them they work for us not the other way around.  this is just total BS.  the poor guy at the steal your dollar shack is just getting his butt chewed off, and he has nothing to do with it.  it would be better if you could pull your boat up on the gravel while you are getting your exercise, but you can't do that either because of all the shot rock they lined the bank with.  something has got to give.  the ramps were built and paid for by the taxpayers, and we should still have reasonable access to any of the ramps, including viney creek.

I could not agree with you more.  Total cluster around the all the ramps with the rip-rap.  Limited docking space and then nothing along the shore line even in non-wake areas.  And tell me why in Heck have they put boulders in front of some of the parking on the lake side at Eagle Rock.  Simply STUPID.

It's funny you bring up Viney. Looks like it will be closed permanently next year with MO Parks not involved anymore. 

When the closing of Viney began, they had the "town hall" meeting the corps said any ramp in Emerald beach or owl creek were public ramps and there was nothing anyone could do to prevent the use of the ramp. The only recourse they had was if you were parking above the take line. 

Isn't it funny that the corp will do that exact thing they said private citizens couldn't do in closing the ramps at Viney Creek?

I don't understand all the boulders being placed around all the ramps,  and along the shore that  just decreases  the usable area without having boat damage at various water levels. Any one seen what they have done to the ramp on H?.

I totally understand why, IT because they hired some engineer to design the ramp instead of someone with common since.  Beaver Creek ramp on Bull is a perfect example.  I could barely get my wrangler with a 17ft boat turned there with the little turn around they made

Probably to prevent erosion from washing out materials from under the ramps and causing buckling of the ramps.

yes its about erosion but they left to small of an area for even two boats to put in at Big M..and people who dont know the rock is there or when water is stained are crushing props down there...i appreicate the corp efforts across the board BUT  we have a true national gem with Table Rock and they constantly seem to go against common sense...closing viney that is always busier than Big M campground is a prime example...if you drive down ! 44 two of the largest RV sales on side of road tells you people are still camping and Rv ing yet our lovely lake seems to close down areas where campers can enjoy...if they tell you its about costs..then raise the camp fees still extremely cheap for staying on such a beautiful resource

We have been dealing with the boulder issue on Bull Shoals and Norfork Lake over the years as well. We have been told the rip-rap/boulders were placed to protect the parking lots on these two reservoirs. Heck even our internal engineers want to place boulders around the parking lots. I have made my dissatisfaction with the boulders known on several occasions and will continue to express my displeasure until the boulders are removed. 

We also have some accesses with designs that make me scratch my head and ponder what were they thinking........

Also, all USACE fees (launching and camp fees) go into the general fund... so i don't believe raising fees will fix the issue.

We see this all the time in our industry.  The person doing the design has no real world experience in what they are tasked to do.  If you've never launched a boat or parked a trailer how could you have any idea what needs to be done.

Heck, we have engineers spec grades of steel that have been discontinued for 25 years.  Try explaining that to your customer.
