That is a stupid law. Reminds me of the Debtors Prison of history, guy won't/can't/didn't yet  pay -lock him up to make sure  that he can't possibly pay and get the government/taxpayers to support his non-paying lifestyle. Makes no sense at all. Might want to lock the ex-wife up too so that she can't use the money he didn't pay her, what?

Why can't they charge the ex-wife with the crime of "screwing a deadbeat", or "failure to prevent pregnancy"?   I mean since she didn't report a rape or anything.    Consequences always fall on the man whenever a male/female act goes wrong.   That's BS!

If you don't think it's BS then the next time your wife comes up with a plan, you tell her "Noway, forget it"......and see how that works out for you.

They act as though a guy that remains married can't be a deadbeat SOB.   You only get charged with failure to provide for your children if you're divorced.   Crazy!

That very likely the reason for folks to get a divorce!

Women are getting less and less these days compared to the 80's when I got dehitched.

Both of my daughters were raised to take of themselves and any kids they have.  Daddy could get hit by a car the same as running off and not helping  out.

Well, if given a choice. I think i'm going with just running off. That whole getting hit by a car thing sounds messed up:blur:

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???B)

I went through two divorces, the first was mellow only because my in-laws loved me and threatened to disown her if she didn't treat me fair.  The second was a genuine nightmare and it nearly landed me in prison.  On my third now, and although we had a real "WEDDING" I refused to sign into a contract with the state.  We are both perfectly happy without that piece of paper and I can't imagine why any man would choose to sign a marriage license.  There are much better and easier ways to assure security for those you love.  If the woman doesn't trust you, and enjoy you enough to stay then she knows where the door is and can leave without all the unnecessary drama.

Well he sure ain't gonna pay his child support while he's in jail....So now you get to pay for his kids and his ex wife, PLUS pay for his room, meals, legal defense, and medical care.   At least when he was free and fishing he was feeding himself and stimulating the economy somewhat.  🤔

Only if he likes jail.  Most folks will do a lot to stay out of jail.

It's easy, just join the National Guard, hurt your toe, and then you are a disabled veteran and exempt from radical family support enforcement.

My wife's ex is in arrears over 20k, they take a portion of his wife's tax return every year and send it to us, but otherwise he is free to do whatever he wants.   If he had never signed that marriage license they would have been better off.  😂

Divorce is not the smartest thing to do either, but the idea that anyone in jail will ever be able to pay a debt is ludicrous and once you have put the guy or gal in jail you have made their future possibility of gainful employment so slim that after they get out they will be likely always  dependents of the government in some form.  Any job application that doesn't ask "have you ever been in jail?"? Does your company hire ex-convicts? Jails cost more than just signing the mom and dad all the kiddies up for perpetual welfare would. Jail is just a dead end for society, a pit in which to burn our combined wealth; if an individual is a danger to the public, fry him/her. If not  dangerous find a punishment that fits the crime such as cutting off a thief's finger. Five minutes, $25 cost and he will remember forever. A j-walker could be staked out in a busy roundabout during rush hour for a couple days, etc. Poachers could be forced to eat possum for a month. We really need to as a society find an alternative to housing half the population in jail  at the expense of the few that actually contribute.  Soylent Green. anyone?
