45acp Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 With all of the high water we've pretty much been ignoring the lower Osage this summer. Decided to give it a shot on Saturday. Caught about a hundred stocker-size hybrids, and one good one. Smalliebigs, patfish, FishnDave and 10 others 13

Willing to let us know what you were fishing, topwater, cranks, jigs, etc.?

Willing to let us know what you were fishing, topwater, cranks, jigs, etc.? Caught the big one on a Pop-R. They hybrids were schooling shad below the old lock and dam. If you've fished that place you know how hard it is to catch up to them without spooking them. I got lucky and landed my lure in the middle of a frenzy. Three fish smacked it before I got a hook up. After that it was an hour before we saw them again, and then they were spooky to the point we weren't able to get back on them. Get within 50 yards and they were gone. My buddy was throwing a WoodChopper and had several strikes, but all of his hook ups were spots. He probably caught and released a dozen of them. The small hybrids were all caught between the wing dam and the two islands just upstream from there. Road Runner, 1/4oz Bomber spinnerbait, pepper spoon, WoodChopper, they were hitting everything we threw. We got lucky and caught the end of Friday's Bagnell release current. The water level dropped ~5' on St. Thomas gauge from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. Johnsfolly, dpitt and snagged in outlet 3 3
navery Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Nice fish. Didn't realize I responded to this thread. Must have been a butt reply, lol Edited to an acceptable reply now.
45acp Posted October 18, 2021 Author Posted October 18, 2021 Launched at Bonnot's Mill yesterday morning. Fished the confluence first. Nothing but gar down there. Worked our way upstream hitting all of the normal spots til we got to the top of the Kelly Hole. Nada. Blasted upstream, didn't even stop at the railroad bridge. Not enough water there to bother with it. Fished the lock and dam. Two spots and one dinker white bass was all we could muster. Talked to guys in three other boats. They weren't doing any good either. I don't think it's my imagination that the fishing on that stretch of river has been in decline for a number of years. snagged in outlet 3 1
fishinwrench Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Hybrid stripers, being a fish that rely predominantly on MAN to reproduce and stock, are always gonna be "here today/gone tomorrow". Similar to trout in the white ribbon areas. From what I've heard it seems that hybrids are noticably scarce below Bagnell this year too. I suspect that the majority are getting stocked in Truman, and the Covid fiasco likely has the production down considerably. If Lake O has received a stocking this year I haven't heard about it. I'm gonna guess that it hasn't..... THANKFULLY 😁 45acp 1

When the water was right, motor up to the south side of the lock and tie up in that big eddy about sunset. Drink a couple of beers and let everything settle down and then start with the rattletraps. Did OK now and then, not always which is fishing. When it's on, it's a heck of a good spot. Walleye can be caught there too, but not as consistent as the wipers.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 I’ve never heard consistent used in the same sentence as hybrids. Worse than the mythical white bass “run”

Worse than the mythical white bass “run” They are only "consistent"when they are stocked frequently. The lower region of Truman lake is as "consistent" as it gets I think.
