tjm Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 Sometimes if I'm doing well at RR a guy will ask what I'm using, which I show and get the comment "I never saw anything like that before" or "what's that called?" I just shrug and say "bait" Daryk Campbell Sr 1

tjm Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 See, I'm not intimate enough with those fly things as to name them, just bits of feather and such wrapped up on a hook. Don't copy many patterns and chance are don't have another like it.
Gavin Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 I rarely tie anymore. Might do 3-5 dozen a year. I only use a couple flies that I cant buy a mile away at Hargrove’s. Used to tie 100+ dozen a year. Still have big Plano boxes full of em. laker67 1
Foghorn Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 They were keeping it a secret from me.Not sure where Laker came up with the material-thinking maybe an auction or rummage sale. The secret fly he's talking about that took all those browns has appeared in several fly fishing magazines over the years. And it has worked well on some big trout. With my skills at the vise, my scuds are suggestive at best. But I can tie several in a short period of time. Pick out the best looking ones and head to the creek. I assumed Sandy got the best looking flies and you got the "2nds". laker67 and snagged in outlet 3 2
