jdmidwest Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 While sitting outside today waiting to bust the ole groundhog with the new 6.5 before he could stick his head out on the nice sunny 65 degree day, I had a thought. Get a jump on the garden. Ran to town and picked up some topsoil and topped off one of the raised beds. Cleaned off the others. Planted lettuce, spinach, and snow peas. I was given some clear sheathing panels from a tear down. Planning to use them to build a green house at the farm, but I put 2 of them to good use today along with some sheets of clear plastic from another tear out. Makes a nice little cover for the bed I fixed today. Bees were out today in force. Coons have been bugging them of the night, declared war on it. Have it on the game camera, but it will not trap. Smart one. But cold weather is coming back soon. Ground hog must have seen his shadow somewhere... ness Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Started tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and ground cherries a couple weeks ago. Thinned them out yesterday, and it’s back under the lights. BilletHead, Fish24/7 and tho1mas 3 John
Fish24/7 Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 So ready to get started, just waiting on a light I ordered. Seeds will be started sometime next week. Did a soil test in the garden today. Mostly good, just a little low on ferts is all it showed. Don't ask me why I bought 12 diff kinds of tomatoes seeds in addition to the varieties I grew last year. they were 25 cents a pack at dollar general last Fall and I went a little nuts when I saw all the different kinds. I won't grow them all but I plan to try a few new ones I haven't tried before. Made a light stand to put in the spare bathroom. I'm converting the bathtub into a growing space to start my plants 😄 ness, tho1mas and BilletHead 3
jdmidwest Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Nothing popped up yet in raised bed yet. Jumped the gun. Meanwhile, cleaned out 4 bee hives that failed this winter. I knew those warm spells would get a few. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

I hope the bee's do their job well this year. 😊 How many jars do you have left from '19 ? N9BOW 1
jdmidwest Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 Several. Dr visits are every 6 months now, take him a gallon each time I go up. Sold some to family and friends and gifted a bunch. Most went to sugar pretty fast this year, something about the sugar content made it crystalize fast. Looks like all hives at house are still alive. Still have 14 hives. tho1mas, fishinwrench, BilletHead and 1 other 4 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Fish24/7 Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Well, another set back.. First light they sent me blew up. There were disconnected wires in the housing caused a short. Sent a replacement, waited another week, guess what, they sent a fluorescent bulb instead of led. Maybe third time they get it right. Another week should get it then. 😐
oneshot 1 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 You do know Groundhogs are not in season yet? I like eating them. I'm just going to grow some late stuff and my Berries. oneshot
Fish24/7 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 Finally got my grow light. The right one. Planted 40 of the Belgium tomato seeds from last year harvest. 16 have sprouted so far. Hate being 3 weeks behind schedule though. Guess I could have bought a temporary light but I wanted to see how this new led light performs compared to the cfl I used to use. Don't have a room with good sun so I need artificial help. Daffodils are up,even saw a single purple violet bloom today. Planted some lettuce and onions outside about 2 weeks ago, nothing came up so either too early or too much rain I guess.
