Bill Babler Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Couple of things that 196 pointed out. The weight will really help and you have to reel it very, very, very slow. I mean 5 to 1 slow, on Carbon as he said. He gave you some fantastic extremely hard learned information on the Magdraft. Kind of like fishing a redfin, I have seen people do crazy things with it, stop it jerk it mess with it. If you throw it out and wind it in the bait will do the rest as that's what it is designed to do. Just go slow and let it swim. When a fish bites it, let the rod load and just pull back when you feel the weight of the fish, everything slow and methodical and you may catch a big-en. A few years ago, BP had a year end sale on them. I think it was the year or the year after they bought Cabelas and I bought 10 of them for $5.99 each. They were not in stock and I waited 6 months for them but they finely showed up. They will be good thru post spawn along again with as he mentioned the Dixie Jet. That is elite information that you got in his post. Thanks 196 m&m 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
196champ Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 Didn't mean to blow anyone's cover with the swimmer! It takes a lot of patience to throw this bait and it seems like most give up on it. In any case, good luck to everyone. I'm hoping Ulrich can get my boat in the shop this week! mixermarkb 1
96 CHAMP Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 After the storms Sunday the weather was weird, overcast and no wind, the atmosphere seemed dead, but the fished turned on and a spinnerbait at night was the ticket. dtrs5kprs 1
mixermarkb Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 I don't have the guts to go for the 10", but I am gonna give the 8" a try. I do sometimes wind them slow as Bill says, but as often as I run them slow, I run them as fast as I can get it to go without rolling, which truthfully is not all that fast. Windy banks, same places I used to throw a spinnerbait or even a wart, I'll chuck the big guy. Caught 7 keeper largemouth on Bull this morning with it, and I still feel like that bite is really off with the lake flooded as compared to what it was last year at more normal level. Now if I could only get the S-waver to get me any bites...I do think the magdraft is a gateway drug into the big swimbait world. Must stop watching tactical bassin... dtrs5kprs and vernon 2
Bill Babler Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Never fished it like that. 99% of the time I throw it on Bluffends and the front of Deep Docks or long points to suspended fish. I can see where you would have to give it a ride fishing it over shallow bushes. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

May want to give the magslowL a try for that, it runs deeper and slower than the magdraft, without having to add weight or otherwise mod it dtrs5kprs 1
196champ Posted May 11, 2020 Author Posted May 11, 2020 Fished the same area this weekend, not as much schooling activity but you could still call them up with a spook. Some nice small mouth and a double this morning, that one went 4lb 14oz with a 17"k A few on the Dixie jet, megabass 110+1 and swim baits did the majority of the damage, out to 35ft with the slick conditions mojorig, liphunter, vernon and 3 others 6
