However, there have been large numbers of people coming down with COVID in that industry. I am pretty comfortable about the reliability of there being an increase of 260 cases last week here in Maryland that were workers from the poultry processing plants about 60 miles from my house. They have not closed those plants, but may soon. I read from MSNBC (now this could be fake news) that over 1600 new cases in Iowa that were workers from meat packing facilities. Some of those plants may have closed. I have heard that some farmers (again not fully vetted) are killing their animals since they are not able to send them to packing/processing plants and effectively cutting their losses of additional feed and care costs. and just why is it that those people in the meat packing plants are all sick?? i can tell, but it would just start a war on here, and i will leave it at that. bo MOstreamer 1

Harmony Beef in Canada was shut because the inspectors refuse to go there. Plants that still operate do so with fewer people, so less output. https://www.bing.com/search?q=packing+houses+shut+down+covid19&qs=n&form=QBRE&sp=-1&pq=packing+houses+shut+down+covid1&sc=0-31&sk=&cvid=6280C8EE55954CD4B56BE3EF6353A73E and guess what inspectors belong too? you connect the dots. bo
Terrierman Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 The biggest meat crisis around here is beef or venison?
rps Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 I do not know about processing plants in other places. Based upon living within 30 miles of two Tyson and one Georges plant, the people who work the line are not well off financially and include a high percentage of Latinos and Marshal Islanders. At other plants it may be a different ethnicity, but I am willing to bet the demographics are similar. The above means a high percentage of show up even if ill workers. The above means larger, more tightly packed, friends and families. The above means lower testing rates when ill. All of these factors contribute to rapid spread in specific groups. vernon, LD Fisher and big c 3
Quillback Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 From the videos I've seen of the production lines, the workers are masked up, wearing some kind of coverall outer garment along with gloves. I'd speculate that wherever they are picking up the virus it is not in the plant unless it is in a dressing room or some place where people are gathered together.
Devan S. Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Time shall tell but I know personally I am hanging onto about 18 calves I should have sold in the last 2 months. Market is down and so I'm hoping with the grass growing something breaks loose soon so I don't end up taking a bigger hit burning through pasture for calves that will likely sell poorly anyways. I'm certain I'm not the only person doing that either. Today its the processing/packers...tomorrow its the feedlots.....next week its the producers.

There's a lunchroom in every factory I ever worked in. And a locker room. That's where it spread. tjm, rps and Quillback 3
vernon Posted May 7, 2020 Author Posted May 7, 2020 Sorry but in my opinion the Chicago Sun/Times and pretty much every newspaper in the country is about as far from "reality" as it gets. You gotta look hard and do your research to find dissenting views on anything now days. Becoming harder and harder to be an independent and free thinker and not just follow the propaganda. Youtube keeps taking this interview down but it can still be found and when available I would offer it to those looking for an alternate perspective. Not saying it's true or false I just think it's important to consider dissenting viewpoints and then draw your own conclusions. I believe the future depends on it but that's just me. https://l.messenger.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FIsuCa6V7prg&h=AT3sJZ-ivSnWvxqt5K69JsmHTnctG9IEwn9AQJh6vpHSYi8L27SKXs32G-PkberEcx63JcVjOyghTlkq2JuOrP89AOcmjokYK0FjinULq5LRUt7i1vJSy3ZnpFPhyYzZDxWvU52PiWTeBnd2rs47fesHOzA "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." I have been wondering if they way that they clean those facilities is possibly creating an aerosol containing the virus.
