May be that I just run cheap chargers, but I have not had great luck with them bein able to properly charge deep cycle batteries, I have had two and 3 bank, depending on what boat I owned at the time and have tried keeping hem plugged in all the time and always seem to go dead quickly.  If I go I've and put on a real charger like I use for tractor or truck and let it charge for a couple hours, it is good to go.

While on the topic of batteries - I run a 24 volt trolling motor.  Is there a problem using one of the trolling motor batteries to start the 25 HP outboard?

Nope.  Shouldn't hurt a thing.    I run a single deep cycle battery in my Jon boats with 12v trolling motors.  One battery does it all.

Automatic chargers can be misleading.  Run the tilt and trim through a complete cycle then test battery voltage again.  You'll probably see voltage back down to 12.5-12.6 right away.    You can either leave the auto charger hooked up for awhile and let it periodically bump it, or you can put a manual charger on it and let it boil for an hour or two.

I haven't touched my bass boat since our little memorial day derby and my cranking battery reads 12.8v  and that's entirely from stator output several weeks ago.  I never have to charge my cranking battery unless I run my livewell pump for several hours and don't burn more than 3 gal. of fuel.

12.45 after tilt and trim cycle.  My charger will just bump it for a minute and say complete.  New battry time?  IfI lived near your place I would be over there everyday working on stuff.  I miss that most about the bicycle shop.  We always something going.

Maybe.  Do you have a charger that will boil it up to 15v?  If so, top off the battery with distilled water and let her cook awhile.    But if it's 3+ years old just forget it... go buy a fresh one.

You'd love it here right now. Over and above the daily grind I have got a couple of really sweet projects going on. 😊

Turning this into my new fly fishing flats rig. IMG_20200620_203649945.jpg

And just bought a 20' center console Sweetwater toon (tube towing, catfish drifting vessel) to entertain the wife and kids.  It's getting a complete facelift and motor refresh. Maiden voyage scheduled for July 3-5.  IMG_20200624_212637391~2.jpg

Remember those old gas motors you put on bicycles?  We used to put those on everything just to mess around.  In the winter we even worked on Go carts and mini bikes.

I'm buying a new battry.  It's 3 years old in July.

Thanks, man!!

The Wizard!   😊👍

They make even better ones now.  2-stroke AND 4-stroke.   If it wasn't for all the steep hills around here I'd have one.

Alright battery ninja's.  My new Duracell trolling motor batteries are both 12.87.👌

What starter battery do I buy?

Current one is an Exide 24 msx, 650 CCA, 80 minute reserve capacity.

That depends on what you are running besides the motor.  If nothing or near nothing, then go with the CCAs recommended by your motor mfg.  If you have serious electronics you may need a biggun.
