In an 8 hour day i have to sit down and respool half way through the day cuz my line gets so beat up on cables and pitching over boat lifts
fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 No they rattle against one another and flutter off to one side or away from you instead of straight down. The best boat dock spoon system ever. Not so good when the bites are coming deeper than 8-10 ft. but when fish are suspended fairly shallow under the docks.... it's a killer. Jann's Netcraft has all the goods, you can put together a dozen of them for about $25. You want the split ring on the bottom to be a size or two larger than the one on the nose of the spoons. aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 That interesting, may have to try it. Most the summer Fish on Table Rock i catch are closer to 20 all the way to 40'. Just with one spoon they have so much leverage i only land about 50% of the keepers i hook...the small ones never come off
fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 No they are connected top and bottom, with the bottom ring being (I think) 2 sizes larger. I experimented with putting a hook on top also but that lessened the thump-thump-thump that you see/feel on the way down. You don't feel the bites, just jerk when the thumping stops. Which here on LO is usually before it falls 5-6 feet. It would probably work deeper with heavier spoons....or maybe 3 of them. These are fairly light, so with 15# line you loose touch with them after about 10ft.

I've seen the double fluke rig bring up multiple fish trying to eat them before. Literally 4-5 fish at a time sometimes.
fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 James Watson is a close friend of one of my buddies, and he got me all fired up on the spooning docks thing for awhile. It's fun but it is also a dink game for the most part, regardless of how big your spoon is. I've personally never caught one bigger than 16" doing it. But you can get into pods of squeaker fish under the big docks that get all fired up after you catch a couple. Catching 10-12 fish on 15 pitches isn't uncommon at all. But only 1 or 2 might be a keeper. Late August-September seems to be the prime time for it.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Watson and i go way back before i even fished much. We still keep in touch. I always thought of spooning as a big fish deal. We do get a lot of shorts but ive had plenty of days with multiple 4 lbers, Caught a 5.99 and a 4.55 on back to back cast once snagged in outlet 3, fishinwrench and Daryk Campbell Sr 3
nomolites Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I catch a lot of good LM spooning for hybrids and walleye but I don’t work boat docks; the 5” spoons like the Lake Fork usually catch bigger fish for me but it may be more where than what - these fish are usually mixed in with hybrids on the feed.
