I haven't ridden it much at all, always been a walker, hiker, and runner. Miles and miles of bike trails, off road and concrete in this area, I really need to get out and ride some. First I have to put some air in the tires, and get a helmet. Knees pads too, gotta protect my artificial knee. I can't run and even walking far enough for a workout hurts my legs. Used to be ok but at 59 my joints don't like it that much. Terrierman 1

Those that have fallen and those who are going to. Bike gloves will protect your palms should the unfortunate happen. I think they're more important than a helmet. snagged in outlet 3 and Quillback 2

I always cracked up at the bike shop when somebody would hobble in and say "I wrecked my bike". Not kidding I would've never guessed by your scratched up face, hands and knees.. Bike wrecks are nasty... My buddies van was parked in the street in front of the shop and it was raining. I watched this guy come down the street on his bike I said your van is in trouble. He said why. About that time the guy hits the brakes and started sliding and broad sides the van. He plunged forward and face planted in the side of the van knocked himself out. I could not stop laughing...😂 Terrierman and Quillback 1 1

I like the cheap ones with crocheted back and padded leather palms. They sell fancy looking expensive ones with a fashionable logo though if that's important to you. 😎 Those old steel frame Treks are highly thought of in certain circles. Nice bike. wily 1
fishinwrench Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I don't do helmets, pads, or gloves(unless it's jerseys when it's cold). But I do have to change underwear before a ride. Bikini Briefs are a no-no. I prefer cargo pants, boxers, and sturdy tennis shoes.

A couple of years ago my wife and I were headed down a steep grade clipping along some where around 20 to 25 mph and she is just a tad in front. I guess she was day dreaming about my life insurance policy. Anyway I still don't know why she did it. They always have a reason, but she cut right in front of me. I could hit her and we both go down or I could just go down. I took the latter. Road rash every where. Including my left ear. Took a couple of months for it to all to go away. Would not wear a helmet at my wife's request. Didn't want to get my man card dirty. Guess who wears one of those multi-colored bed pans now... snagged in outlet 3, Terrierman and Daryk Campbell Sr 1 2 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
wily Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 Gloves help a ton...a lot of your weight Is on your hands when you are riding...the palms are padded to help offset. Changing out the grips...and bar ends will help a lot too you can buy cycling shorts with the padding that aren’t the spandex type at academy or any bike shop...can get in a cargo Short style Terrierman and snagged in outlet 3 2
David Unnerstall Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I am glad this topic turned to bikes instead of snakes. I rode once a week until recently. The vet tells us this chicken-@%^&* dog of Candy's needs more exercise so I take her for walks instead. I rebuilt the bike I got for my birthday in '76 about ten years ago -- stripped and painted the frame, new brake cables and shoes, new rims and tires and new pedal bearings. It came out OK. I live close to the the Riverfront Trail and there were times I could pedal to Laclede's Landing and back. I want to pick that up again now that I just retired (I am calling it "retired" until I run out of money and then it will just be considered "quitting"). Terrierman, snagged in outlet 3 and wily 1 2
