fishinwrench Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 I always chase big gills in the Spring but never have targeted them in the early Fall. I want to go get some now that y'all have me fired up about it. They should be suckers for a grasshopper fly right now, don't ya think? I need to take the Jon boat to my bluegill pond ASAP.

Ham Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Bull Shoals and Norfork have some ADULT Gills, but It is pretty rarefied air past 10 inches. my best producer has been drop shot in 15-30 FOW. I know what they look on my Humminbirds now. I am making a trip to Sand Hill Lakes in Nebraska looking for a PB Gill later this month (and maybe a few other fish). Members ICI Posted September 11, 2020 Author Members Posted September 11, 2020 Thanks for all the replies. I did run out to Lamar last night; weather wasn’t great but I wanted to take a look before dragging my boat out there. Caught a few from the bank and one red ear. It seems really shallow, and my dropshot weight was dragging up black gunk every time. I wouldn't eat anything out of there personally. Walked away not feeling too hot about the place but after catching up on the thread. The idea there are a few, although hard to find, big'uns in there, I may just take the boat out for a day. As for some of the gills I’ve caught at Table Rock, I figured I should share some pics. Bushbeater, Greasy B, wily and 3 others 6
tjm Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Adult 'gills right there. I've only seen them that size back east, but I don't fish lakes.
Members ICI Posted September 11, 2020 Author Members Posted September 11, 2020 Just going to throw this out there. I only catch and release for pictures for my Instagram and website. So, if you have a honey hole/pond around SW MO and are willing to let me fish for sport and pics, i would super appreciate it. Just saying.... Thanks

Thanks My spot isn't in SWMO but it does have lots of big gills. The thing I'd like to figure out is how to stay on the big ones. Early in the Spring for about 3 weeks I catch lots of big ones, but after that the big bulls just disappear.....and it's nothing but 7-8 inchers from that point until next Spring. I'd love to be able to figure out the why/where/and how.
