FishnDave Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I don't know why....but my dad had a strong fondness for catching and eating bullheads when I was a kid. The ones I caught earlier this summer while flyfishing fought really well. My biggest on a fly hit a Muddler Minnow in 2017. The monster measured 15" long! I think Steve Irwin would agree..."What a beauty!" 😁 timinmo, nomolites, Daryk Campbell Sr and 2 others 5

We have eaten white catfish this summer. They are a bullhead species. We fried them and they were good, but then again most fish fried will be good. Haven't tried any brown bullheads. FishnDave 1
Ham Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 River Chub (Nocomis micropogon) I caught two of these little guys below Triple Falls on the Little River in North Carolina. This is my best guess right now. I know it’s not life altering, but Hurricane Zeta screwed me over. I had planned to hit up a small river in Kentucky in the way over. I gave up on that idea. And the rivers that I planned to fish were blown out. High Flow, cold, off colored Water is terrible for me to fish. I had planned to fish Friday AM, Saturday AM, and 1/2 a day on Sunday. I only got to fish on Sunday. I caught 7 fish all together. Oddly enough, more Redbreasted Sunfish. I’d never caught one before this year, and I have now caught them in three states. I tried repeatedly for Blue Cats and Stripers. No Luck. I’ll roll the dice again Saturday and Sunday. Still trying to decide where and how. I really want to get a couple of new ones for the year. I’ve already got a lot of stuff in mind for 2021, but starting to think I might be too results driven. 2022 I think I’ll fish totally for fun whatever that means that particular day. I’ll always gonna like new places and learning new techniques. FishnDave 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
FishnDave Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Blues and Stripers...I haven't caught either of those yet. I'm hoping for a Blue Cat on a fly in 2021. 🐟 Johnsfolly 1

I tried repeatedly for Blue Cats and Stripers. No Luck.... On Beaver, when surface temps are ~48-52, (usually around Thanksgiving) you can catch both in the same spots. When the big gizzards pile up in the backs of the long creek arms, the stripers make a daily dawn & dusk trip back there for an hour or two. If you setup a little further out (~30' deep on a creek bend) you can encounter them as they head back out to the lake for the day (~10-11AM). Loose schools of blues are following at this point, you'll get about a 30 minute shot at the stripers, then another 30 with the blues as they cleanup behind the stripers. It's one of the most predictable fishing things I've ever encountered. Should work on Norfork too. Featureless, flat-bottom creek arms are way better than V-shaped, steep, timbered ones. This will continue till the big gizzards head back for the deep at around 48 degrees. Quillback, FishnDave and Ham 2 1 I can't dance like I used to.
Ham Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 Thank You Very Much! I think Quillback and I are going to fish Beaver with the hopes of getting me a Striper. It would be Super to get a Blue as well. I have something to try. IME, Blues rarely hit artificial lures. Which natural bait should I try? A gizzard plug would be Great, but I don’t have a source.
