Terrierman Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I got a 20 gauge 1100 from my mother on my 21'st birthday. It's been just a great gun since day one. Still have it of course. Its also why I bought the 11-87. Very similar guns with similar fit. Too bad the 11-87 wasn't reliable. Gavin 1
ness Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Dad handed my brother and I down a couple Browning A5 Light 12s. I still use mine and love it. Take good care, use the right load and set the rings right and it's good. Got a Citori White Lightening 20 ga. in my sights. Don't need a 5-shot auto when 1, rarely 2, are all I ever need . I have used it the last 10 years or so, it has suited me well but doesn't like to eat light dove loads or shooting trap and skeet. Anything in the beretta family will work. Benelli, franchi, stoeger, beretta all have good options, great barrels and interchangeable chokes amongst the current family. I have a rep from each 😀 for light stuff, wing shooting and clays, an OU with ejectors is tough to beat. If u get a gun for steel, the forcing cones tend to be more favorable than an older or off brand models. Short cones don’t like the faster loads of today. Makes ammo harder to readily find that patterns well.
Gavin Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Have a couple ancient .410's in the basement, not really worth selling or keeping. Destined for a stupid politicians gun buy back...May keep the Mossberg bolt 410, with the 3 mag. Only two that I shoot are Bennelli 12, and my dads 12g Spanish Side by Side (Uegarteche). The side by side is super light, only chambers 2 3/4". It is an ugly old beater from the late 1950' or 1960's, but I really like shooting it. Terrierman 1

My first was a 1400 20 gauge and it run like a champ with any 2 3/4 loads. That was all it would chamber. I had a few others and bought a Super X2 that handles all well from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 loads. Pretty clean running gas system and it runs dry. My buddy watched my gun for years. He went from an 1100 to a Beretta. The Beretta would freeze up in the blind while mine kept chuggin. Ended up with a Super X3 and never had any issues. When I really want to shoot and take a little pain, I have my Russian Baikail 12ga Over and Under Skeet with Modified Improved Briley choke tubes. Took 3 mallards with 2 shots one day, best shot ever. Killed a few turkeys too. I have a 1400 sitting in the cabinet that I need to fix someday. If you load 3, it'll shoot one, load the next, and kick the last out the bottom. The plastic throat in the mag tube is busted. That's one thing to check for if you're buying one, seems like a common issue. Load a shell in the tube and make sure it fits snug in the tube. -Austin

I had a 1400 Winchester that I used in a doubles trap league. It started having a weird vibration and I found that the stock was cracked. Ordered a new stock and about 2 months later it did it again. I traded it off for a 1200 pump and never had an issue with that one. That 1400 auto just couldn't handle the repetitive firing I guess.

Bennelli or a Franchi, or a Berretta if you want a gas gun. Didn’t Bennelli lose there Paton on the SBE? Therefore all those other companies are copies of it? Just know I was hunting ducks at 10 degrees and my buddy had a sbeII that the firing pin froze. Vera max downed 2 mallards. Just saying any load anywhere every time! Feel more American about it too!
Gavin Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Dunking your tools in water in sub freezing temps never ends well. It will pooch most anything. It does not make the tool bad no matter where it is made. If it is a good weapon for you, it's a good weapon. Would not buy a Rem until the biz gets transferred and all the warranty issues get explained. American made, I don't care, unless it is better quality for a reasonable price.

Its all a matter of contact points. Rubber O rings and lots of contact along the mag tube and receiver make many freeze points. Winchester did not have any O rings on their actions. Remington Versamax has a system of different placed ports. Never broke one down and looked at the action. Benelli used a different system also. Nothing to do with “dunking your tools in sub degree temps”. Just relying on a firearm when you need it! Mine worked his didn’t . He left it in his truck overnight is what he said. Still should have fired if it was a versamax
