Agreed, but it doesn’t make you better, or Smarter than someone else. The only thing it does is get your foot in the door.

2 of the best engineers I work with on a day-to-day basis have zero degree. One is an engineering manager and the other is a lead manufacturing engineer.

Engineering degree gives you the fundamentals, on the job shows you practical application. Both in this case have worked their way into their positions.

The difference is they have both been with our company 30+ years and have a ton of on-the-job training.

In a lot of degree programs the required gen Ed classes weed out a lot “less qualified” degree candidates.  I don’t want to call them stupid since most of the classes just require long term dedication to get through them.  And then you have to do it for a couple years.

And congratulations to your daughter!!!

Well a person doesn't have to go to college if they don't want to.  Depends what you want to do in life.  You will find that a lot of doors are closed in certain professions to those not holding the necessary paper, medical field being a big one.

Hiring on ANYWHERE is a gamble.

I paid my hometown a visit awhile back, made the rounds checking in with almost a dozen old friends.  Some attended college, some went into the service, a few were musicians and have spent 30 years pledging allegiance to sex-drugs-rock&roll, and ONE quit school his junior year and opened up a tire shop when he was 26.

Guess which one is living a good life now?

Harold Ramis went to Washington University in St Louis and modeled the Movie Animal House after that.

I'm guessing the tire shop guy, there's some folks that have made a good living in the tire business.
