Johnsfolly Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 @Ham Jealous of those cool darters. Did catch my PB American shad this morning with this doe. Close to 3.5 lbs. Still have to measure the mark on my rod. Did land what I thought was a hickory, but couldn't get a photo so counting it as an American. Did get the stink (with shad most things get a stink on them ) on Livie's rod by landing one out of three hookups. FishnDave and Ham 2
FishnDave Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 (FND06) Golden Shiner-caught over 15 of these...all really nice ones, measured several from 10"-11". Apparently max. size is about 12". No State Record or Master Angler for this species in Missouri. But for comparison...the Wisconsin State Record was set in 2011 with a 9.75" fish, then broken in 2015 with a 10.75" fish. So...just sayin'...these are record-class-sized fish. They actually fight really well on the fly rod! Although called Shiners, they are in their own Genus...not closely related to Common Shiners or Striped Shiners. Rudd can look pretty similar, let me know if you think these are Rudd. Quillback Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 So what do you guys think of sub-species as far as adding to your count? The reason I ask is that doing some reading on walleye today and the Black river has a genetically distinct walleye population that are native to that river. And there are 3 smallmouth types in Arkansas; Northern, Neosho, and Ouchita.

On my list, I'm not doing sub-types of SMB, but I might do a geographically isolated sub species of trout. I will count a recognized hybrid like SaugEye but not the dozens of sunfish natural hybrids.
