Found it interesting that they are NOT running full generation today during that late morning to mid-afternoon time. Some, but SWPA is hydro-only, and MO & AR still rely heavily (~73%) on coal. The WR chain combined output is ~820MW, just a fraction of the 43,661MW SPP was overseeing today. I can't dance like I used to.

But it's true. Maybe just until fracking is shut down to the extent natural gas supply costs swing the economics; then my guess is certain alternative energy companies and their stockholder politicians are given a cut of our earnings in the name a green new deal. And actually, coal would still be economically viable if it had not been legislated out of business by this same process and most of the same politicians. Just my observation, there is a slim chance I could be wrong. Mike Basfis and snagged in outlet 3 2
Mitch f Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 My brother is out in Wichita this week and the plant he was working at shut off power today. At least his hotel has power. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

TRL at 10am was only running 130MW giving another 70MW which is 10% of the shortage right there. BS was 340 so they were 50 MW short as well. I'm sure there is some level of explanation(maybe maintenance). Just seems like over 14 states.....maybe there was 641 MW not utilized? Added: looks like at 7am were back to level 3 and neither project TRL or BS is running capacity. Hopefully at the 8am updates they will be.
Terrierman Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 -18 at my house this morning. That's cold by any standard. 5" of snow with it and more coming tomorrow. Nice.
oneshot Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 Just found out our neighbor got rid of all his Firewood and went to just using Space Heaters. I bet last night he was rethinking. oneshot

MOPanfisher Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 At my house on top of the hill it was reading -12, by the time I got to the HWY at the far bottom of the hill it dropped to 18 and waffled around from -20 to about -13 depending on if I was at bottom of a frost holler or up on top of a hill. Whatever it was cold. At least we will get more snow tonight so there is that.
