Members slabstacker Posted March 7, 2021 Members Posted March 7, 2021 I went up to fellows yesterday to fish for a little while and see what is going on with the marina. The marina is empty and no work has been done on it at all. They have a small bait shop in the city utility building up on the north side of the parking lot. They didn’t have anything in there yet other than snacks and drinks but you can get your new permits for the year up there. The guy working there said he would have some lures and stuff in there soon. As far as live bait all they will have is crickets and worms. I asked about minnows and he said they will not be selling minnows because they are not a native species and that if we want live bait we need to get a cast net and get our bait that way. So needless to say if your going crappie fishing and want some minnows you need to get them elsewhere and bring them up with you. Bass Yakker and dpitt 2

Members cReekFishin Posted March 13, 2021 Members Posted March 13, 2021 Crappie fishing at fellows has been terrible the last few years in my experience. I can catch them all day but rarely find any bigger than 6 inches. I feel like the musky have a part in that. Or maybe they need to have a length limit on crappie. I've seen groups of people keeping every crpie they catch, most of which wouldn't be enough to get more than a nugget off of. Anyone else had this experience?
Members slabstacker Posted March 13, 2021 Author Members Posted March 13, 2021 Crappie fishing has been killer up there the last serval years. I have a hard time going some place else when I can take a 20 minute drive to fellows and catch a load of crappie. Last year in particular was the best crappie fishing there I have seen in years. The weed beds that usually grow did not do very well at all which had the crappie concentrated on shallow brush piles. You could scan a brush pile and see hundreds of crappie on it. I do agree with you though on the length limit. I wish there was at least a 9” length limit because I have also seen people hauling loads of 6” and 7” fish out. trythisonemv 1
Members cReekFishin Posted March 14, 2021 Members Posted March 14, 2021 You must have some spots nailed down. I've been confined to to fishing from the bank the last couple years and haven't had much luck with any decent sized ones. Planning on getting the kayak out there this year though to find some other areas.
