Mitch Crane has broken 4 rods this week. Most every other angles at least one.

It has to be the braid doesn't it.  Last week they were breaking them while boat flipping. This week its on the snap/ie hook set.

As hard as rods are to get right now, even for those guys, its a real issue this year.

And yes, they continue to stomp all over them on the front deck.

Its a bad look for them and a terrible look for the rod builders, manufacture.

Crane's are custom built, he is doing that builder no favors snapping them at this pace.

It however has gone on all year with lots of guilt party's. Between the two tours they have broken more rods than Bass Pro has in stock.

Any advice on guide repair? Super glue? JB weld? It’s a bait caster rod, mini sized guide. Thanks in advance for the feed back. Was throwing a frog today and kept hearing a rattle sound. Looked up and the 3rd guide from top was sliding back and forth.

You can order replacement guides online. Remove the old guide and all of its wrapping carefully with a pocket knife, mix a small amount of epoxy and position the new guide properly (you can use a little dab of epoxy to hold it in place). Then wrap the thread around the rod at the foot of the guide as many times as it takes to secure it and make it look like the other guides. You can spin the rod between your fingers while holding the thread spool with the other hand to speed this process. Once you've reached the right amount of wraps, cut the thread and seal it all the way around with epoxy. You're good to go the next day.

Champ has it down.

Only can add tips. Put the thread spool in a coffee cup and run the thread through a book to provide the correct tension. Watch the video for "how to" start and end the wrap. Two light coats of epoxy, let the first one dry before you do the second.

Have fun.

Do you suppose some of the broken rods might be from "look at me" hooksets?

Or maybe.. "Here, hold my beer" hooksets???

From what Bill has written in the past, Beck is looking down and laughing at the hook sets.

Once they are dialed into a technique, Why in the world do they have 10 - 12 rods out all the time ?

wouldn't 6 be plenty?
