This is a dumb question of course but I know nothing about outboard motors. Does Mercury or Yamaha even make 2 strokes anymore?

Nope.  And parts for the ones they did make for years, are becoming scarcer, and more rediculously expensive, every day.   It's obvious that they just want them to die and go away forever.

A new age is upon us.

A truly good/reliable 4-stroke outboard COULD be produced.....but it would be a HEAVY SOB and nobody would buy it because of its weight/power ratio.

Every commodity on the planet has doubled or more since November.  The only companies not hurt by the chip shortage were the Japanese.

CRU steel price index:

8/12/20 $437.00/ton

9/15/21 $1,930.00/ton

Check out lumber prices.  Heck just go to the grocery store.

Lumber has actually come down quite a bit from where it was. We are having an addition and other things done to our our within the next few weeks and are thankful lumber is a less than it was earlier this year.
