Couple freaks on Halloween

Hit my local smallie river.  Two nice 16” smallies and some smaller ones.  All on crank baits.  Plus these two freaks.   The drum had me thinking it was a smallie.   Whatever the heck the second one is was just a tank.  Both fought really well.  @Johnsfollyir @Hamcan ID the second one.   I weighed it in the net so deduct a pound.  Still a hog though.

Some variety of Redhorse, but we need better pics. Need to see whole fish, dorsal fin, and relaxed mouth from underneath. 
we also need to know the drainage to know what our list of possibles.

That’s all I have.  I don’t like keeping them out of the water too long.  It put up a great fight.  I had turn off the spot lock when it ran down stream.  

You know something?   As I’ve grown older I have a lot of sympathy for the fish I catch.  I keep apologizing to them when I let them go.  Weird right?

Given the size, it could only be a silver redhorse or a river redhorse, and since silver redhorse are usually, well, silvery, and river redhorse typically have a golden tint, I'd say it's probably a river redhorse.  It also appears to have parallel folds on the lower lip, which is a characteristic of river redhorse.  So I think that's the best guess.

I know it’s weird.   I’ve caught thousands of fish.  I don’t apologize to stocker trout though😂

Pete great fish. Many redhorse get into double digits. As Ham mentioned lots more photos are needed to get an accurate species id. Here's my big go to in terms of Id for the common midwest species.

There are ways to get those characters in a couple of photos while keeping the fish in a the net and in the water between photos. Regardless call it a redhorse sucker.
