Yeah, plenty of eager fish for sure. I saw a LOT of people hooking up with fish all day long I was there.

"you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post"

There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

Sounds like you fellows had a good day, at RRSP.

The midweek days that I usually go fishing they close  the C&R. Seems really stupid to me, if the fish are released what is gained by only allowing fishing on the weekends?  Because of the weekend only rule, I'll probably only fish a couple times through winter at RR if at all, rather than being there a couple days per week. I'm about at the point to quit buying the Trout Permit every year since I get little benefit from it. That aside I always avoid opening day of anything.

I agree totally, The hatchery guys got to be there anyway. Concessions could do what ever they liked.

I think it's a fact that the majority of anglers aren't that careful with their C&R practices.   Hell I'll be openly honest and admit that some of the fish that I release aren't exactly being released completely unscathed.  A barbless hook rule would help, but I HATE fishing with barbless hooks more than I hate driving on bald tires.    Besides you know full well there would be no enforcement of a barbless hook rule whatsoever anyway.

So if they allowed it 7 days a week the population in the stream (with no additional stocking) would be completely kaput in about 10 days.

By allowing it Fri-Mon they are allowing 2 actual weekdays.   So swap your Wednesday for a Friday or a Monday and you're golden. 😊

I don't think at RR the Concessions are even open during CnR.

I can fish C&R seven days a week on all the trout waters in the state except the Park or Taneycomo and never need the trout stamp. I f they allow me to fish one day a per week of my choosing in the park, I'd still buy the stamp. As it stands I probably won't give them that $10.

You are right though that a lot of the trout released don't live. between slick nets that  make the angler power squeeze the fish  and cold hands dropping the fish 3-5  times before the camera works then having to step on the slimy thing to grab it again to get that trophy image. I was told a few years ago that they have to stock the park monthly for C&R. yet places like Crane Creek get fished C&R any day and never need stocking, figure that?

Not even close to the same number of people fishing Crane. I bet there are more on a nice weekend at RR than Crane sees all year. And the people fishing Crane are a different breed and know how to respect the fish.

I rarely trout fish but will gladly give them my $10 a year or what ever it becomes until death.

Surely they don't stock CnR just to keep more fish in the water. I always assumed it had to do with space in the hatchery and keeping it chugging along.

There's definitely no issue with space in the hatchery at BS.    As it is they only utilize 1/4 of what they have available to them.

Took the oldest grandson up there for his first fly fishing trip on Saturday the 12th. We let it warm up a bit before we got there and started fishing around 9:30 First picture is his very first trout, with a lot of assistance from his Pops, and second picture is his best fish of the day that the only thing I did was net for him. We had a blast! He caught 5 or 6 by his self and I even got a little fishing in too. I tied on a dry fly and caught one after another in the hole below the low water bridge.
