Jerk bait setup.

I have a couple Falcon Jerkbait specials and love them. Great action and light weight rod. Pair up with a Lews SLP reel typically on 10lb fluorocarbon.

Falcon Cara Weightless Worm rod (6-7) paired with a Lew's Tournament MP LFS reel. Bought the rod used from Mike McClelland. The Weightless Worm rod is the same blank that the Jerkbait Special rod is built upon, according to Mike. Works awesome for me. I use 8-pound P-Line green mono. Works awesome for me.

I have 3 jerkbait rods I use,  2 lews 6'7", really like them with my lews reels.  My favorite is my 6'4" Cara.  Had it for a long time probably 15 years.   I throw all my jerk baits on 8lb mono.  Switched over 2 years ago, and get bit more throwing 8 than any other.   That's just my experience.

I will also add that I will throw a spinning rod only when I throw a spoonbill rogue.  I believe fishinwrench posted that some time back.  That bait calls for a spinning rod.   Wrench was totally right about that.

I have 2 Cara JB rods as well and usually fish 8# Invisx/Revo SXs…occasionally swap to a Revo SX loaded with 10 if I’m striper fishing.  I love Falcon rods,  for stickbaits especially.  No doubt I get bit more using 8#,  I don’t know whether it’s depth or action - just gotta keep the drag on the light side or increase the risk of losing a favorite bait.

I use a spinning rod for the smaller JB's, like a Pointer 78 or a 110 JR.  I really like my ALX Zolo Spin/skip.  6'9", fairly fast tip.  Caught 3 short walleye and 3 spots today on the 110 JR before I switched out to the deep fish.

For bigger JB's and deep divers I now like my ALX Zolo Kelly Jaye JB rod (bait caster).  It has a bit of a faster tip than some of the other JB rods out there which I like.  I don't like a soft tip like you get in a crank bait type rod, my personal preference is for something with a stout tip, it seems every one likes something a little different.

At about 11am, We put in at Aunts Creek because I want to learn that part of the lake. Only my 3rd time there. Took a nice boat ride and threw that jerk bait for 3 hours. Nothing to show for it. WT was 64, water was very clear and hardly any wind. But it was a great day to be out.

After seeing Randy mention using the Megabass XX Whipsnake for full size Vision 110s I gave it a shot. The rod did "ok" but in my opinion the 110 seemed to overpower the Whipsnake a bit. I experimented with some other jerks and found the rod handled smaller baits like the Trick Darter quite nicely though.  Even then, I still prefer a baitcaster for most of my jerkbait fishing
