Mine is noticably thinner and softer than the old Legend Ultra's.   Still a fine rod, but it lacks that hammer hook setting power of the Ultra..... which I like in a bass rod.

Cork is the bark layer of a tree.  Clean it good with soap and water. Can be sealed at that point.
