Ole Scotty says GM is toast....  TIFWIW😂

Ole' Scotty is also a Youtuber and hasn't worked on anything in any significant capacity for years.

He's right in this instance but I don't put much faith in his squawking.

It’s click bait but you have to give him props for making money on a YouTube channel.

Whats crazy is they still complain.  greedy

Do you see similar claims with Ram and Ford?

I have only done a little bit of work on Ecoboosts, enough to know how much of a PITA they are to work on. I don't know if they could've shoved that motor further down and under the cowl if they tried.

Rams have all of the same MDS crap on the hemi.

I think he's spot on in this instance.  The electric car/truck thing is NOT going to work.   It just isn't.

Yes an electric car will transport a person. It will.   But it will never EVER replace internal combustion engines.

Automotive Technology has lapped itself and is now sucking hind tit.  Auto makers desperately need to cool their jets and back up to where they were 15 years ago.  And so do marine engine makers...... because they are all just screwing up right & left.

Sorry not a truck although same family, but put 70k on our 2016 tahoe with 5.3 with zero issues.   While researching its replacement i found tons of horror stories on the gm forums with the 2021s and a so called bad batch of lifters.  I don't deny the issue but I think it's overblown with the sheer amount of 5.3s that are out there though.

Have 5500 miles already on the new YukonXL which is supposedly past the build date on the lifter issue. Fingers crossed and knock on wood...

I will say the 10spd is a huge improvement from the 8sp in our Tahoe, and despite being bigger gets better gas mileage.

What do you recommend?

for a new diesel? buy a good warranty.  I see lots of dodges/fords with high miles on new trucks meaning they are using them for hot shotting and delivering campers.  Fords are cheaper to work on(go figure).  And the Fords have the fuel rail return setup to go into the fuel filter housing instead of the fuel tank meaning if you have a problem (fuel pump) the metal goes into the filter instead of the fuel tank which saves lots of money.

We see have started getting quite a few cam/lifter claims on 5.7 hemi engines then we used to. Dodge has a TSB that says if there is metal in the valve timing actuator then it needs an engine instead of a repair.  We see quite a few timing chain issues on the ecoboost, but ford has a special policy on them now that assists up to 90k with partial coverage.

Timing chains are cheaper to replace on the ecoboost than cam and lifters in either pushrod engine.

I'm not a fan of undersized engines pumped up like Ecoboost to achieve similar power.  Seems like they would wear out quicker.  Would you agree, @gotmuddy?

There is probably some merit to that.  I dont see a ton of 200k ecoboost trucks, but I have never ran a claim on one for oil consumption either.  Maybe once they hit 130k they either blow up or last forever?

I own three vehicles: 2006 toyota camry(310k), 2007 toyota sequoia(280k), and 1996 f350(380k).  We love toyotas, there is simply nothing statistically more reliable.

I bought my wife a 2020 4Runner after seeing what my buddies were getting for used Toyotas at trade in time.  Crazy how they hold their value.  My Yukon was nearly worthless after it got to 200K miles.  Then my buddy gets $15K for a used 4Runner with that many miles.
