Nice!  The sculpins still all look the same to me! 😅

These guys have two really distinct features that separate the two species found somewhat locally, the blue ridge and the potomac. We also have mottled sculpin in MD but only in one river drainage area about 4 hours from us. This species, the blue ridge sculpin, has two pores at the point of the jaw line (two median pores). The potomac has only one pore.

The second feature is that the edge of the dark band on the tail is straight. The potomac has a notch in that dark band.

Still working out some details with my Betterhalf that will affect my final goals. I have a starter list going:

1) Fish for roanoke bass and lake trout

2) Catch at least three species of darter; at least two different species in MD and one lifer.

3) Catch at least 15 lifers with targets of

    a ) two lifer goby, blenny, and/or sculpin;

    b) two lifer sunfish; either Lepomis or Enneacanthus (banded) species; and

    c) two lifer bullheads. Still need to catch a spotted, snail, and flat bullhead.

Been doing a lot of travel lately targetting another sculpin species, the potomac sculpin. Had my chances but haven't gotten it done. I did finish one of my 2022 goals on Sunday.

2) Catch at least three species of darter; at least two different species in MD and one lifer.

I've posted this guy before. My lifer tessellated darter.

Last Thurs caught my first MD fantail darter.

On Sunday caught my first MD greenside darter.

Still haven't caught a nice colored up male greenside darter (actually the name sake for these guys) and did not see any on Sunday. All were juveniles or females.

Finally got a tip on a checkered sculpin here in Maryland. Thought about trying for a new species since the potomac sculpin have been kicking my butt. Livie and I caught a couple on Saturday making me very happy😉! This was my second sculpin of 2022 and met that goal😁!

Specific 2022 Goals:

1. Catch the following species on flies:

-Bowfin

-Flier

-Spotted Gar

-Chain Pickerel

Update:  Bowfin and Chain Pickerel have been "checked off", thanks to @Ham.

And I've had Spotted Gar on the line, but none landed yet.

Flier have not been targeted yet, but apparently I've fished where they are.  That's a step in the right direction.

Here is my updated list:

Gila Trout

Apache Trout

NM trout slam Additionally picked up a Master Angler here.

1 level of Arizona trout challenge Actually completed both levels.

2 more Arkansas Master Anglers-I've actually caught 1 smallie that met the requirements but my original goal was for a new category(hoping at this point for Striper, Catfish, Trout, or Bream)

1 trout park lunker(not RR)-This just probably isn't going to happen this year.

I've got a couple more want-to's on the list but I'm not sure how travel will work out.- Still TBD

I had intended to only have one Fishing Goal this year. My intention was for My only Goal being to Keep it Goofy. Just fish for Fun! If I somehow wanted to fish for Bluegill 365 days in a row, JUST DO THAT.  Just fish the moment and not be so Goal oriented. I seemingly can't do that.; I'm wired wrong.

sooooooo

1) Keep it Goofy

2) > 3000 fish

3) Get Life List to 200 Species (I am at 164 right now)

I have other stuff in my head, but I am (mostly) keeping that crazy stuff to myself.

I wish Everyone The Best of Luck in 2022 and I hope All Your Fishing Dreams Come True.

Dream Big! Beat Yesterday!

So at the halfway point, here’s my update.

1) I’m definitely keeping it goofy

2) only 1218 fish caught so I have to make up some ground there.

3) life list is up to 198. I’m Still grinding, but I had chances to be over 200 already.
