I spent a couple years chasing walleye on Stockton. For me in my poor boy clothes 26 degrees makes me head for  the ramp. If I had a dry ramp, and some ice fishing gear, I might think about colder weather. When the high for the day is 26, I'm staying home.

Some day I might have that cold weather gear, but I doubt it. $$$$

13 degree this morning at the lodge. Duck hunters have been pounding since just prior to daylight. I've heard at least 4 big volleys.

I think there has only been maybe 1 or 2 days since around Christmas that I have not heard them pounding. That's a lot of duck and goose meat.

Could just be a lot of scared or wonded.

Witnessed a guy last week put a boat in at cape fair idle back to the swim beach and blast a goose on the ground . Right out of the camp ground . Pretty wild

Last year some guys set up a blind right by the swim beach at the Big M park.  Never heard them shoot, and the park geese weren't around that day so I doubt if they were going to get anything.  Those park geese don't fly much, they do some swimming then waddle up to the grass and graze for a while, then waddle back to the water and swim.

There was a couple of dozen hanging around the old Viney launch last week.  They need thinning out.

It's 10 am and they are still hammering. Sounds like 4 people in the blind this morning. They have shot at least 50 rounds.

This group are extremely experienced hunters. They have came to this same location for the last 17 years at least in January, and they hunt everyday.

Don't know a durn thing about water fowl, but I'm surprised on such a sunny day they continue to fly. Only thing I can think is lots of migratory birds in here this morning

They are usually done blasting by 8 am or so.

I believe you left out one of their other favorite pastimes. 😀

What does one do with all that goose meat ? I mean if I was starving I would eat it, but only then. I have tried it different ways, fixed by the folks that kill them, I don't care for it.

Park geese are probably tender:grin:
