snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Even after the Fed tax credit and my local co-op credit it would take something like 75 years for me to break even on a rooftop solar system. I doubt the equipment would last that long. Or me. 😂 The only people I know that are doing it are doing it as more like a "hobby". Like buying a hotrod instead of a minivan. The Busch family has a big solar deal at their duck club/farm. My buddy said if you hunt there they insist on giving everyone a tour of it. To show it off... I'd be all for solar if it was actually economical. There were a couple new subdivisions out here offering it on their new construction homes. You might see one in the whole subdivision of 200 homes.

Call it whatever you want but they aren't more economical than a regular power company setup. We saw our electric bill go down about 30% when we replaced our HVAC system with a new one. It has constant air volume. Set at 75 in the summer feels like our old unit when it was set at 70.

But the process for bringing oil up from the ground and refining it isn't clean. At least the lithium will last a while before it just goes poof into the atmosphere. whats funny is the top one is completely reliant on the bottom one for it to work at all. tjm, Huntingducks117 and fishinwrench 1 2 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Right on. No one is saying solar or LEEDs is mutually exclusive. Efficiency gains can be found across a wide range of things, not just high-efficiency HVAC, but also insulation, better windows, construction design and materials -- a whole range of things. To pick out solar and say, "eh" it can't pay for itself, therefore I dismiss it, is a bit lazy.

You could literally see a candle flame move during strong winds. This house has Tyvek, Andersen windows and doors and its 1200 square feet bigger than the old one and the bills are cheaper. You'd have to prove the solar deal to me. And apparently to most of the country. Doesn't seem to have any traction that's for sure.
