Do the 7 lowest guys in the points standings get cut, or how does that work? They were also talking about someone retiring, was it Elias? I heard on a podcast they thought either Duckett or Klein. Cant remember which podcast, i listen to a lot of them while driving. I remember they were saying Duckett had to much stuff on his plate to focus on the actual fishing.
top_dollar Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 I don't follow pro fishing much, but just out of curiosity, have tournament weights jumped dramatically since the forward facing stuff started? It seems like it will allow guys to just obliterate old records, but that may just be because of my own poor understanding of it. I remember a few years ago I was cleaning fish on a dock at Kimberling city (bluegills), and Pete Wenners and his friend or client pulled up to wait out a down pour. He was showing his to me, and it was pretty impressive to scan directly under the dock. I am no purist by any stretch, obviously, but I understand how professional anglers can see it as an unfair advantage.

The weight it takes to win really hasn't changed, but the number of guys coming in within a pound or so of that weight has increased dramatically. top_dollar and big c 1 1
Bill Babler Posted August 12, 2022 Author Posted August 12, 2022 Wrench, has it right. The Forward Facing sonar has made a huge difference on a national catch and release deal but on local deals I think the Alabama Rig has been as much of a game changer as anything. A handful of these pro are so go and have their units so dialed in they pretty much are in the top 10 anytime it’s an off shore fishery. For gosh sakes Wheeler was seeing a single fish sitting by a grass clump and cranking it up. big c 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

I have to say I did get totally sick and tired of hearing about Bass Force. Alton Sr. Seems like a good guy but he was totally outside the box and really a total bore during his time on air. Seemed like the on air crew kind of got a poke or two at him too. I think someone said he might be over cooking it You know there was a bunch of guys that did not catch them. Would love to take a wing at that lake however. Again thank you so much. It was fun and informative as always Bill. I completely agree about bass force. He mentioned it many times on camera but I’ll let you guess as to how many times he looked at his phone during the day… Some other questions or comments I’ll answer here as well. Tilly was SO nice and she backs the boat in so I didn’t have to get the truck and we were like the 3rd boat out of the water 😀😀! this is what I know about next year https://majorleaguefishing.com/bass-pro-tour/2023-bass-pro-tour-requalification-on-the-line-as-season-enters-final-two-stages/ Final day guys are usually veteran guys. 🍻everyone -Trey

From what I have seen, it is more about changing the way they are fishing more than increasing bag limit size even though Lee Livesay put together a pretty impressive bag on Fork last year. Livesay was fishing a jerk bait and using the FFS to target individual fish and I have seen quite a few of the other pros use them during tourneys where they are fishing jerk baits, the guys using it aren't casting unless they see a fish. Edwin Evers fished an event on Grand on the BPT and he was using it to target fish with a jerkbait. He was offshore looking for them, no way he would have been doing that without FFS. Funny thing was, the winner (I think it was Bobby Lane) won that tourney flipping cover and docks, old school fishing. But Edwin was in the hunt, Edwin was having hookup issues too - he'd get bit but the fish would get off. I don't know if I will ever get it myself, but I rarely fish tourneys. I have fun fishing the way I do, I don't know that having FFS would make things any more fun. top_dollar and magicwormman 1 1
DADAKOTA Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Whether it is an A- Rig or FFS. At certain times of the year and on certain bodies of water if you don't have/use them you are not going to win a tourney.
Bill Babler Posted August 15, 2022 Author Posted August 15, 2022 Looks like from what I’m hearing 3 or 4 guys are either retiring Or pursuing other interest. HVe to talk to Mike after the last derby and see what his thoughts are. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
