Johnsfolly Posted December 23, 2022 Author Posted December 23, 2022 In this situation they should just leave the coyotes alone. If the coyotes are not coming around houses and possibly around children, I see no harm in losing a few stupid house cats they are straying into the green spaces. @Dutch get a have a heart live trap then take the cats out to the closest Nat'l forest or MDC land and donate a .22 LR for each cat. I have never seen any of my past cat donations to the wildlands stick around for more than a couple of days.
tjm Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I was thinking cage trap and pond or water tank. Treat them like skunks. I don't like shooting into the cage because of possible damage.

tjm Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 The mangy coyote can be cured with 3 cc of ivomectin, the mange of itself is not a reason to remove it from the population. I don't understand how people can be surprised at "how bold" a wild animal is, those are predators, it's only natural that they attack fleeing prey and as soon as the child or pet flees it becomes prey by that action. I am surprised that predators don't attack unattended children more often than they do, especially in urban/suburban areas where the animals have become used to humans not attacking them. Agree I have dropped live traps into Pat's garden pond to drown coons. It is really clear and not fun to watch the struggle. I have done many drowning sets for coon, mink, beaver and muskrats but I was not there to watch. The correct placed shot is much quicker. When I used to skin I did not like the mess a shot animal presented though. tjm 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Sometimes there is a jerk neighbor in the area that needs every coon, groundhog, cat, opossum you can trap....just make sure they live far enough away they do not return...... I guess I don't get shocked at the boldness of coyotes, that's part if why they are so successful as a predator. I also don't spend a second of time thinking about how to cure one of mange. I simply remove the problem if possible and go on with what I was doing before. I guess the phrase "it's just a dang coyote, cat, possum, skunk" is pretty much how I look at them.
