The first time it happened Amber and I was at Bennett by the bathrooms. I was really glad nobody was walking behind the car. I kinda wondered if my wading boot wasn't partially on the accelerator.....but I really didn't think it was. Today it happened again while heading out of our gravel driveway. I stood on the brake and turned the key off as quickly as I could. Restarted, and of course all was well. Quite the eye-opener. BilletHead 1
jdmidwest Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Too many electronic sensors to crap out. Modern tech is even worse. I was having a conversation with a tech that was riding with owner in new Ford along the interstate. The collision avoidance was fighting with the lane change sensor, that was fighting with the right hand mirror sensor and locking up brakes on the interstate at 70 mph. He was scared shi less. I like the old school tech. Driver in charge Daryk Campbell Sr 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

And of course almost all new outboards and I/O's are going to DTS (Digital Throttle & Shift) nowadays. I'll not be working on them or owning them. Big brother wants it that way so they can shut down drug smugglers and "terrorists" from a satellite in space. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

The fact that those kinds things don't work has never stopped them before. Shall we begin a list of mandatory things that do nothing but cost us money and over-complicate our lives? 🙄
Dutch Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 Find some unsuspecting dealership and trade it off.
tjm Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 Manufacturers and NHTSA always come to the conclusion that it is always pedal misapplication/user error. There have been a couple of recalls of vehicles with excessive unintended acceleration problems and none have resulted in any other finding. I know this because I had a similar experience with a Taurus and did the research. Big foot and pedals a little too close together. However if the cruise control really isn't disengaging when the brake is applied, I'd disconnect the cruise from the throttle. Brakes should be designed to overcome the engine at WOT regardless of engine size/power, I think. But I might test that in an open area with plenty of stopping room.
