fishinwrench
This has happened twice now, in 2 years, and I'm afraid to let my wife or anyone else drive this thing until I can cure the problem. Did an internet search but only found this.... https://www.tahoeforum.com/threads/it-just-accelerates-for-no-reason-tahoe-is-possessed.5578/ which is the exact same issue I'm experiencing, but no tips on how to diagnose or resolve it. I would assume that it's a TPS problem. I called my auto mechanic dude, and all he had to offer was....."Hmm, Wow, yeah I dunno". So apparently it's not a common issue, but it could result in a really bad day if I don't get it rectified properly, and as soon as possible. fishinwrench
Here's the thing though......The accelerator pedal or any associated linkage isn't "sticking" (That would be something I could diagnose & fix right away). No. Imagine setting there at idle, in gear, with your foot on the brake, nothing touching the accelerator pedal, and suddenly for no reason the RPM's go up drastically. Or shifting into gear and suddenly the engine tries to go to 4000 rpm before you even touch the accelerator pedal. And that 5.3 has enough power to easily push through the anti-lock brakes....even in 2wd. If it was in 4-high or 4-LO there'd be no stopping it, short of quickly turning the key off. This is a potentially serious thing. The throttle control isn't mechanical (no cable or linkage) it's all sensor/computer controlled. And not a single fault code is stored on the ECM except for a tire pressure monitor code.

(Not in the OFF position) I never considered that. I never EVER use cruise control. Do ya reckon........? But pushing on the brake is SUPPOSED to shut it down, isn't it? Cuz it didn't, either time.
