Used to whack salmon on the head after boating them, it would stun them.  You don't want those things with a mouthful of hooks jumping around in the boat.  If you do it right it takes one knock to the top of the head, accuracy is better than force, nice sharp rap and they are done.

Halibut guides carry shotguns, if their clients decide to keep one that is a 100+ lbs. they'll shoot them in the head before boating them.  But before they shoot them, they'll harpoon them with a float attached to set up the shot.

Ammo is expensive, but not close to what each of these cost.

Another hour and this kit box is done. Haven’t built one in 16 years, but it’s like riding a bike.

Update video with these gems. At about the 3 second mark you can see them rolling together as a group, which is what you want. At the end of the video watch the black bird on the far left. You will see her rolling at the end.  
 

Started out with 25, and down to 17. Hawks are the devil for us pigeon guys. I’m buying some breeders from a guy next month, so will be able to replenish what i loose yearly.
