You'll never catch me on an airplane, jet, or helicopter, except for a dire emergency.     I'm a mechanic, I see mechanical failures every day.  Therefore I don't trust mechanical things to that degree.......

And I especially don't trust mechanical things that are controlled by computers!

Even a jet plane wouldn't be quick enough to save you.  Flew in and out, rode a cruise ship between islands, and rode busses while there.   Pretty neat experience.   Even rode on the inflated tubes of a Zodiac with twin 150s along the pacific ocean.   That was a neat but scary ride.

Wrench, do you believe statistics are a thing or just another way to pull your leg?

Statistics aren't a "thing", they are a compilation of other "things".

The components of aircraft are THINGS, and things that fail.... typically do so while in use.......THAT fact is statistically proven.

And sometimes they don't fail...they just "disappear". 😬

Did they find Malaysian flight 370 yet?

"Some 83 aircraft have been declared “missing” since 1948, according to data compiled by the Aviation Safety Network. The list includes planes capable of carrying more than 14 passengers and where no trace — bodies or debris — has ever been found."

Thats 83 planes missing in 75 years... a little more than 1/year on average.

But aircraft still appear to be safer than ships:

"Between 2011 and 2021, some 892 vessels were lost at sea. The majority of ships lost during this period—around 357—were cargo ships."  72 were passenger vessels!

Thats 892 ships missing in 10 years...almost 90/year on average!

I love flying in small airplanes.  If I had done that a long time ago I would own one instead of a glitter sled.  Helicopters are amazing.  I could ride in one every day.

They disappear, hit buildings, crash in the Mississippi swamps, and for some odd reason they have a habit of falling out of the sky when rather famous individuals are aboard.    🤷‍♂️

I don't like to fly because I don't like people and I have to set close to people I don't know.  Otherwise they don't bother me, had a flight cancelled once because the pilot said it was way too windy to fly.  It was a small plane on the front range of the Rockies people were squalling and complaining.  I was like people the pilot says it too windy to fly go get a beer and relax.

Yes it has been years but I like Helicopters, go to turn it is like laying on your side.

We got one I was the only one that volunteered to ride in it.
