ollie Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Man, that was one tough opener for C&R. Not many fish caught this year. I'm used to catching some numbers down there on opening day, but not this year. It was slow and tough this time around. Not many fish to be seen even. There were some spots where fish were stacked up, but not many. I ended up catching 16 and the biggest was 17". Most of the ones I did catch had some size to them with only a couple of them being under 10". I ended up going home around 2. It was a beautiful day to be outside though so that was a big plus this year. Looking up and down the stream I didn't see many people at all catching fish. Not sure if low water was the factor in not stocking this year. I suppose they did stock, but if they did you couldn't tell at all. I will say this, it has changed since last year when I was down there. As in the pools look like the floods got the best of them. Oh well, still a better day than work!! dpitt, tjm, Johnsfolly and 6 others 8 1 "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

tjm Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 They didn't stock many all summer, 1 1/4 fish per tag I was told vs previous years 2 1/2 fish per tag. (I seem to think that years ago it 3/1) Supposedly they were shipping fish to Bennett. The local that told me this was kinda upset about it. I usually hit the park on Tue or Wed after any holiday weekend and find the pools stacked full, that didn't happen at all last summer. dpitt 1
ollie Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 I was going to start a new thread, but no one has posted anything on here since last year! I ended up going down there on Friday for the C&R this year and caught plenty of fish. I was in the fishing mood all last week! I was worn out from traveling the day before so I didn't get down there until around 9. Stayed until 1 and caught over 30 fish easily. Probably caught 15 out of one hole and then I found out later Buzz caught a bunch out of that same hole. I think he said he ended up with over 100 for the day. Didn't really seem to matter on color a whole lot either. I started out fishing a ginger colored jig and then switched over to olive at some point. Saw lots of fish getting caught as well by others. I didn't realize they were doing construction on the bottom campground either. They had that closed up, but you could still fish around there. They just didn't stock anything down there this year from what I could tell. Foghorn Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Susie and I took a short trip to Roaring and fished Friday and half a day Saturday. It showed 32 degrees on the Explorer when we pulled into the parking lot at 08:30 so Susie decided to wait in the car. By the time I rigged up the fly rod and got to the stream, I saw one of the locals catch a 5# rainbow. I congratulated him on a nice fish and he said he had caught a 12.5# rainbow earlier. Ollie was correct in his report from a week earlier. The hole in the upper sections of the park were stacked with fish. Saw an old friend from the KC area and he confirmed one other guy had caught a fish bigger than the estimated 12.5 pounder. I had a 5 and a 3.5 and lot one that looked to be 8.5-9# as she took me into a weed bed and broke me off. Susie continued to catch fish (once it warmed up outside) on small fur bug patterns in some shade of orange/peach. We didn't keep track of the number caught, but it was a great day with some of the best stocker fish we've seen in a while. I did get to see Susie miss a 6-6.5# rainbow on Saturday. We left out around 12 noon Saturday for the 4 1/2 hour drive home. As I was headed to the car after using the men's room above the hatchery, I saw 2 young lads walking along the big pool that comes out of the spring. They were getting ready to fish when I explained to them that fishing there would get them in trouble. Their Mom was standing close by with a smaller boy and I explained to her the situation. It would have been interesting to watch but I was concerned about the cost to the parent. All 3 big fish were caught/hooked on a bead head fox squirrel nymph! ollie, nomolites, Nick Adams and 3 others 6
