Springfield has a large homeless population. Roughly 2800. That probably includes couch surfers as well as the "campers".

Someone who doesn't have their own place and just crashes w/ friends/family. No permanent residence. They are technically homeless.

You see this a lot w/ families, which is why kids in poorer communities move in/out of schools so often. They crash somewhere for a few months, wear out their welcome or get on their feet, and move to another school district. It's awful for kids because there is no educational/curricular continuity and they end up behind and below grade level. By the time they get to HS, the fail out and/or drop out and the cycle continues.

You also see this a lot in rural communities. We think of homelessness as an urban problem, which it is for the loner, but in the rural communities, it looks a lot like what I described. I've known of families literally living in garden sheds or trailers w/ no running water and kids in elem, MS or HS in the Springfield metro. I'm sure it's a state-wide, nationwide issue.

Springfield has turned into a cesspool. Homeless everywhere destroying anything that is given to them. Shootings all the time, I know 2 of those shot at the Barnhouse. I don’t know any details but I know it was caused from someone that doesn’t know when to stfu. Been around him many times and have done my best to stay away from him the past couple of years. He thinks he’s a big tim gangster. He’s just a punk with a gun.

They have the Kitchen on Glenstone and Homeless just follow.

Nope.  You are not even close.  Sister Lorraine ran a tight ship and mostly served families.  The Victory Mission down the street had cots for the night for men and the Salvation Army had a shelter also.

Gotta agree with you on this one….i probably went into 5 gas stations and restaurants a few weeks ago and I was like…What the hell has happened?

Lots of them stay on Conservation Areas.

No joke.  And neither is having a place to live.  I''ll bet anybody here they won't trade places with any of those rich homeless people.  Let's make it $500 but it has to be for a week.
