Flysmallie Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I’ve had that problem in the past with fluoro. I fixed it though. Fairly easily too. I went back to doing the same thing I had been doing since 1976 or so. Mono with an improved clinch knot. Maybe a loop knot on certain things. It’s not stylish but it works. grizwilson, Daryk Campbell Sr and snagged in outlet 3 3
tjm Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Over my lifetime, I have had more failures with the Clinch knot than any other knot that I have ever used, stopped using it for years and only in the past year in discussions like this discovered that my fail rate is because I cut the tag off. It seems a few knots are like that, they need some tag end to prevent slippage and capsize. I still won't use it. I use a simple double overhand knot more than any other for all my fishing needs. fishinwrench Posted January 4 Posted January 4 On that beloved "Pitzen" .... If you actually studied what is securing that standing line after you cut the three "tag ends" off, it would scare you to death.

Mitch f Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Another factor I’ve been thinking about is the smoothness of the line. These new fancier flourocarbons have a very smooth surface finish, much closer to mono. With that in mind, maybe those knots aren’t actually breaking but just slipping undone because the tag end was too short. I mean there is a difference in how many times you loop certain knots depending if you’re tying fluoro or mono. after all in those videos those lines being tested were not broke but Completely removed from the hook. anyway no matter what the reason I’m going to the double Pittzen. FishnDave Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I use the Trilene knot most often. Trilene knot failures with mono or fluoro are extremely rare for me. Failures were more common when I used to use a Clinch knot.

Mitch f Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 Another thing I heard from Seagaur is that they recommend chapstick for a line lubricant for cinching. Just the word lubricant always gets @fishinwrench quite excited. 😆 ps. Wrench, I’m talking about engine parts fishinwrench 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

If you'd put a little Chap Stick in those TackleMax baits you might get a sponsorship 👍 Mitch f 1
