The majority of bass fisherman release their catch so how will it decimate the bass population?

With anglers who eat every fish they catch the fatalities can be controlled by setting limits, but with C&R there are no limits as to how many fish can be taken and released, and with something like 11-18% delayed mortality a single angler can actually kill several times the limit in a day. If the limit is 5 fish, that's all the meat angler can kill, but if the FSS C&R angler takes and releases 100 fish and 15% die from that experience, he has killed three limits of fish. Every thing that makes catching fish more efficient means higher catch numbers and consequently higher mortality.

Has anyone found a way to increase the trout catch rate at Montauk with Livescope yet??

We all worry about the bass, what about trout?  Are they using it for them yet, don't hear anything about it.  I know they slay the crappie with them.

I should haul my portable livescope setup down to Maramec Springs and set up on the bridge with a PVC pole long enough to reach the water. I wonder what kind of responses I'd get? 😆

Another way to look at is that the scoper will likely catch less fish because he is only going after the largest fish. If they are catching less fish then the overall mortality rates will be reduced. I know that's how it with using Livescope for snagging paddlefish on Lake of the Ozarks. When I troll, we catch quite a few shorts and I guarantee several of them die due to have a big hook ran through their gut. When we are scoping them, we are only catching keepers and saving a bunch of shorts from having a hook ran through them.

With FFS we have learned that fish inhabit any portion of the lake that suits them.

On any given day, approx 99.9999% of the lakes surface and/or natural cover is not fished by anyone.
On any given day, approx 95% of the lakes man made cover is not fished by anyone.
When we have a major tournament, FFS will allow both good and average anglers to put more fish in their live well and a certain percentage of those fish will die due to lack of proper fish care.
The number of expired fish per each tournament will not have a measurable impact on your next fishing trip.
Fish do group up on certain locations at different times of the year and some non-commercial anglers will find, catch, and release these fish.
There is a percentage of guides that cater to the catch and keep clients and some believe this impacts the fish population especially in the dam area where you have more tourists and guides. This perceived impact was happening way before FFS.
Some meat hunter guides use night crawlers and put their FFS in DOWM move, so their FFS is a high priced 2D sonar.

A certain percentage of the pros are already saying that ffs is spooking some of the fish. Making it harder to get close enough to catch them. If that is the case, the fish population and health could actually improve because we are educating alot more fish. I personally like the idea of a slot limit like some lakes have. This could be a good compromise. It obviously works very well( Lake Fork). Texas is way ahead of everyone else when it comes to protecting and growing bass populations. They are a good example to follow. Just my opinion though.

I'll tell ya how.....

They EVENTUALLY release them, yeah.   After letting them flop around on the boat floor, taking them for a 1-6 hour boat ride, weighing them, holding them out of the water to take pics, ect.

The ONLY reason that tournament anglers have to run miles from the Take-off cove is because the recently released fish are totally lost, sick/injured, and circling the drain..... about to die.

Just because you don't see them floating doesn't mean they are back to living a good life.

The actual MDC REGULATION states that fish not possessed are to be "RELEASED UNHARMED IMMEDIATELY".     Is that not what it says ?    I haven't checked today....but that's what it used to say.

That should be as easy as aiming the same unit as the other guy at the same spot (or at his boat).

The saltwater transducers are effectively jamming other units in their vicinity.   A boat 150 yards from you can screw up your display returns.

The same type of effect that wireless Home/Dock Security systems can have on digital engine and trolling motor controls.   Hell my garage door opener was turning my shop stereo system off & on and we like to never figured out what the hell was going on!    Thought we had summoned a poltergeist.

There's a lot of RF information bouncing around in our atmosphere these days.  And now it's going underwater.

Sonar is AF, not RF, but I know what you mean.

OTOH, if you can figure out how to make RF work underwater, you could hire Elon to be your pool boy... 😉

I can't dance like I used to.
