When you look at the prices of boats and everything associated with owning one.    A couple guide trips a year is a comparative bargain.  .  I think @rps has gone that route??

If I still lived at Holiday Island, I would have a boat. Where I live now, it's 45 minutes to an hour to mediocre lakes and one and half to two hours to Grand or Tenkiller. In early May I have a guide booked for two days on the White River. At the end of May I have a half day booked with Phil Stone to top water fish Tablerock. I will book a third trip in the fall.

At 2000 to 3000 a year, I have six or seven more years before I use up the money I received for my modest boat.

Plus, I am not paying slip rental, I sold my big car for a Mini plug in hybrid that averages 75 mile per gallon, I don't pay boat insurance, and I don't pay licensing fees. That alone will pay for another two day trip per year.

Plus, the wife is happier. She is convinced I am too old to fish by myself.

I like your analysis.  You can fish with guides and somehow it works out that in the end, it's free!  😀

The Benefits included in a good job working for a large company is typically pretty good,  but it costs the employer about $1.31 for every dollar paid out. But you have to put up with a bunch of DEI meetings.

I'm at 1.22 for the year, our year ends this month, but that doesn't include me or my sales guy. Plus that's actual and no everyone is utilizing all the benefits that are available. I've always hear 1.33 so I had to see where I was.

We don't have DEI meetings but we don't care who you are or what you look like if you want to work. And we don't put up with any BS. If you are creating issues you will be gone, makes no difference who you are. Everyone should have the opportunity to go earn money in a safe environment, but that doesn't mean I'm going to accept your drama.

Know any tarpon guides?  That's another thing I want to do, catch a big tarpon or two.

No.  I’ve only caught them in Mexico.   I’m going to the keys in January so I will be looking then.

and that’s the way it should be… As long as you do your job it doesn’t matter what color your skin is or what gender is or your sexual orientation. This was all drama that was brought up by the old German philosopher. The German are great engineers though 😂

Unfortunately not everyone feels the same way and their ignorant decisions and comments make it tougher on everyone.

Ignorant decisions and comments come from both sides of the fence. These companies today are failing because of DEI, total waste of money and time for any company. If someone is harassing a person then they should be fired. And that comes from both sides.
