Went down with my buddy Justin early Saturday morning from KC. Got on the water by 6:30 am. Fog was crazy bad but we made it up to Lookout and fished the bluff on cicadas I tied up for the trip. First drift we landed 32..yes, 32. Missed just as many. It was madness. Fished until 10:30 am and took a few hour break before we hit the evening.

The evening was a bit tougher because there were cicadas everywhere on the water. We still got plenty of bites, though. We ended up with just over 60 fish on the day. It was the exact same story Sunday, although we didn't count. This morning was rainy and windy with a front moving in and then out, but we still caught 16 fish. They opened three flood gates around 9:00 am or so, so we went up and threw jerkbaits. We caught a few, biggest being a 19-inch rainbow.

Biggest on the cicada was this 22-incher. We had a couple others move on them that were much bigger. Definition of heartbreak. It was so much fun. Easily in my top ten fishing experiences of all time.

And that's even after you broke your buddy Justin's rod...

I was doing my morning coffee and OA at work this morning and reading Ryan's post.  There's a guy in the office that loves to fish, especially Taney, and I turned around and told him that Ryan tore up the trout on Taney this weekend using Cicada flys.

Justin said..."I know, and he broke my TFO rod too".

Too funny.

Oh man that’s hilarious haha!

And yes, he was landing a fish and I went back to cast and hit his rod on accident. Next cast it snapped. But he bought a new Scott so let’s not pretend it wasn’t a blessing.
