In a troubled world. . .

We're not really doomed regardless of what some people want you to believe.  Look around you and be thankful for what you have.  You live in the greatest country in the world, poor Americans are wealthy by world standards, our freedoms are intact and today even the weather is good.  So don't worry, be a good person to your family and others.  You'll feel better for it.

Thinking I may have found a new calling as a life coach/influencer.  Now to convert that calling into cash.....

All I have to do is reflect on my ancestors lives of just a couple of generatons ago - they were farm laborers before we imported farm laborers.  They had nothing.  Things nowadays aren't that bad.

Agree -- we've never had it so good. Could it be better? Sure.

My grandparents immigrated from Lebanon. Here's the house my mom and her 10-person family lived in. 1,200 SF, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. I see they've got a couple window units in it now. When we visited and stayed there in the 60s and 70s there wasn't any. I still remember how miserable it was trying to sleep.

Depends on how you look at it I guess.

IMO these days we have too many people making (or getting) too much money.  Traffic on the roads is ridiculous at all hours of the day, probably because nobody is working very much. And seeing a vehicle that's older than mine is a rare sight, even in a small country town.

Can't even find a kid that's willing to mow my yard for ANY REASONABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY!

I do like though when people hijack a thread to talk about microfishing, which fascinates me even if I've never done any and likely never will.

One of our biggest challenges lately is dealing with night microfishing. On one hand you do get to see a lot more of those secretive species. On the other hand they may simply refuse to bite or get spooked by your lights. When they get spooky it is often hard to see your baits under lower light levels and to effectively position it in front ot the target fish or you could just miss the bite.

Then there is that mysterious bump on your leg or that scurry and heavy splash. In the northeast or even out in Missouri those critters may not be an issue, but in Florida that is a different story😉.

My grandad was born in 1914.  When he was a toddler he contracted what they called Rheumatic fever.  No doctors around, no hospital or ER to got to, no medications to give to him.  All they could do was wrap him in a wet cloth and hope that would break the fever.  It worked, sort of, he lived but it damaged his heart and he always had problems with blood pressure that was too low and died when he was 56.

He had a sister that died when she was 2, I believe it was influenza.

It's hard to beat me in a game of "How miserable were your ancestors".  😀

Wife of a good friend has a job where she gets unlimited time off and sick days.  Gets paid over $100K/year which is not unusual in the software world.

Things are booming in NW Arkansas, I'm not crazy about it, one of the reasons, is as you see also, is traffic is ridiculous.

To fish Table Rock or the lower end of Beaver, I have to drive through Pea Ridge.  Along the narrow 2 lane HWY I have to drive to get to the lakes, there are hundreds of new houses, plus new apartment buildings.  They've just recently moved a bit east of town and are clearing land for a couple of more BIG housing developments.  Hundreds more houses if they can sell them.  They aren't small houses, either, small lots, but good sized houses that are going for, I'm estimating, $400k at least.

Someday there will be a bust, it always happens.
