The coolest dove hunt I ever experienced was over the sod farms in Georgia.   It was like shooting birds over a golf course 😅

No problem finding birds or chasing cripples at all !   👍

We hunted a graded construction site that was left overgrown with crabgrass,   I've never seen so many birds.  More than a cut sunflower field...

I dropped three in the pasture with this guy. I had to be careful with him.

Forgive my ignorance,  but as most of you all know, I grew up as a city boy, and my parents weren't outdoors people.   What is the significance of the collar?  Why must you be more careful?

Thanks.

Not a problem Daryk. This is how we learn by asking questions. Ignorant is a harsh word IMO. You just don't know. it is a Eurasian collard dove. I think there are two types sold for the pet trade. So they escaped and now are breeding and just like fish, plants, insects considered invasive. Shoot European honeybees are not native. Now the collard dove is all over. They actually like to spend more time around homes and farms, feedlots too. Here in Missouri, we are supposed to include them in our bag limit. In other states you can shoot on site year around.  They taste similar to the dove and a slight tougher. Once you hear the call it is easy to separate that sound from a morning dove. Only time will tell if it effects our ecosystem,

There were several hundred of those things all over the railroad tracks behind a campground we stayed at in Dodge City.  Took me a while to figure out what they were.  Apparently somebody spilled some grain and wow had they found it.

I have noticed that out west there are more than here.

I belong to an air gun forum and out west guys get permission to control collared dove and pigeons. Those guys have some great shoots!
