Here is the public Facebook page of the person that was there when it happened.  Not sure if I agree that it was a threat to justify the shot based on her post.  Other posts that I have seen about it from this person stated it was shot from tree stand between the shoulders.  So to me it would have been walking away and not a real threat.  But MDC are investigating and will figure it out.  But it does have an ear tag in one of the photos.  I would be interested to know that tag details to see who, where it was tagged.

Hard to say, the web sources say that it's German dating from the 14th century Bavaria, perhaps a confectioner. In the US since 1683.  One of them was kinda important in developing IT https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._C._R._Licklider

As much as I wouldn’t want to be surprised by a mountain lion, I’d still much rather have them, bears, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, all that other good stuff roaming in the woods here in Missouri than have all these woods around and nothing but the occasional deer and people in them as far as anything of any size is concerned. Same reason I don’t like just fishing manicured concrete park ponds when there’s a good chance of catching stuff in real rivers or at least lakes. Might see something cool you just otherwise wouldn’t. 
 

As far as this event, it’s a shame they couldn’t just let it do its own thing when it wasn’t bothering them. Hope they get a fat fine out of it at least, but I won’t hold my breath.

That never happened but I did sense a bear following me once when I was by myself. 
 

I was fishing at my buddy's cabin and he called and asked if I would walk down the road and unlock the gate for him since I had the key. I headed down the logging road/driveway and I felt I was being followed.

l had stopped numerous times to look back and listen and and when I didn't see anything I had almost convinced myself that I was hallucinating.

I walked on for a bit then stopped again and sat down perfectly still for about five minutes looking up at this ridgeline above the road cut. I'll never forget how that bear silently poked his head out from behind the tree he was hiding behind. I took off down the hill and never stopped until I made it to my friend's truck.

Huge for a black bear.

Say whatever makes you feel good,.... BUT the odds that you won't just see a mountain lion "just passing by & minding its own business" at less than 50 yards, is WAY more rare than an actual ATTACK by one. 

At least that's MY understanding.  

 

If you SEE one within easy shooting range, then there's a really good chance that it saw/heard/smelled YOU first.....and is there because it is CLOSING IN ON your @$$. 

If any court tries to fine them.....THAT would be a good argument. 👍

Say whatever makes you feel good but if that mountain lion knew where they were and also wanted a piece of them, they would’ve had a hard time ever getting a shot off.

Well call me rare then! 1999 0r 2000, LOZ, fishing out of PB2. It would have been around this time of the year because that's the only time of the year that we would fish LOZ. Paralleling a bluff. My dad, who was usually right behind me on the front deck, leans over and quietly tells me to not move real fast but when I get a second look up on the bluff. I looked up and in one really quick smooth motion with my left foot, put the trolling motor on high, turned it left, and tried to push the on button through the deck of the boat. Up on that bluff, just laying in the sun, is a lion. When I looked up it was looking down right at me. I couldn't get the boat away fast enough. It wasn't stalking us, it wasn't hunting us, it was laying in the sun and we just happened by. 

 Now all of you can tell me that it's not what I saw. I've heard all kinds of BS of what I saw, but I know what I saw. It wasn't a bobcat. That's what everyone always says. If you get a bobcat and mountain lion confused you shouldn't be outside. 

I've came face to face with some pretty viscous creatures. The only thing that has ever attacked me is an owl.
