Quillback Posted Wednesday at 05:17 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:17 PM Just got my copy of Buried by Table Rock Lake by Tom Koob, a little history from the book: Shell Knob was first established as a homestead in 1835 by Henry and Elizabeth Schell, near the base of Shell Knob Mountain. When a Post Office was established in 1872, the "C" was dropped from the name. cheesemaster, grizwilson, BilletHead and 1 other 3 1
top_dollar Posted Wednesday at 06:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:24 PM I also have this book. It is a fascinating read for anyone who is interested in the history of the area. Quillback 1
Quillback Posted Wednesday at 07:07 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 07:07 PM There was a double murder in Shell Knob in 1869. The book mentions it but says nothing about the murderer. He was found guilty, and the next day taken out of the jail by the locals and hanged outside the Courthouse in Cassville. Here's a link to the story: Jackson Carney's Murder, Barry Co., MO cheesemaster and Bass Yakker 2

Interesting story. Article states he had $20 from the robbery and he left his pistol and hat at the scene. He was found guilty at the inquest, no trial as he was lynched after the inquest.
