A beautiful day to be out again. The pond at times was like a sheet of glass with low to no wind and times. Fly rods built and loaded as we launched the sardine can boat. Then trying to decide where to start fishing. The old fashioned way without knowing where the fish were stacked up. Chose a place that has been good before and dropped an anchor. Pat used a Grinch bug and myself a new fly I made. Both of us caught fish on the first cast. Catching was pretty much non stop the whole outing. Fishing only two places.  The irrigation lake trifecta were caught. Three species in this place. Bluegill, stinkin largemouth and black crappie. IMG_20260321_082314329.jpgIMG_20260321_083125894.jpgIMG_20260321_084755780_HDR.jpgIMG_20260321_093456417_HDR.jpg

     Addition to the pond post,

We fished two locations on this body of water. Total casting areas combined might have been a 30-yard area. 90' by 90' out of an approx. 10 acre plus surface area of water. Today we both used our clickers for the number guys. We quit with 60 clicks each so a 120 fish day. All of the trip we were neck to neck with me hitting 60 first with Pat one behind. That took a mere five seconds for her to hit 60 fish. Both of our fly's had a 40mm tungsten bead on the 60-degree fly hook. Her grinch bug had a faster drop than my medusa worm (what I have named it) because of material type. This is my answer to the Ned worm. Pat did a strip, strip, strip pull retrieve after the fly hit the water. Myself I let mine fall a bit before doing the same letting it hit bottom and then hopping it for a bit then pulling it up for another cast. Her hits were just what you think stripping in. Mine were on the drop, on the slow jigging retrieve and picking up on the bottom. Even the crappie picked it up off the bottom. We have always been taught crappie are up biters. No, they are not just up biters. Look it up. Pat used her 8-wt. rod, and I used a 7 wt. Both of us an 8lb tippet. These flies are not heavy and can be used with a 5 wt. if you want. Fish were hitting from less than 1 foot deep to 6 foot deep. Did not fish any deeper. Casts were 10 yards to a bit farther. Some of the crappie you could actually drop over the side, but we like casting so casting we did. There will be more about the medusa worm later on the fly-tying thread. So, while this being an imitation of a Ned it is only that way because the way it is fished. Not the same material and by the looks this will explain the name of the fly.

Did we keep and clean fish? I will let you all worry about that and while worrying I hope the bass no kill guys don't implode or have a coronary event. Keeping and eating fish of any species is a personal choice and fish were created for us to utilize.

A couple more pictures for you all. Another note in the first post on the two Pat had ahold of. We doubled at the same time. She netted mine as she had her fish on then handed me the net for hers having both fish in the net. The big one was weighed like others, but it was a legit 5. The closest to that were a couple 4.5.
