    Cast iron

Gotta love old cast iron. The stuff lodge makes today requires a bit of attention to smooth it out.

    What's Cooking?

Did not cook..but had some great Pho with rare beef and brisket from the local Vietnamese joint. Head was kinda stuffy and it hit the spot. The chiles & thai basil did wonders.
  3. I'd come down and fish the NFoW with you. It never fishes as well as the 11pt, but I like the challenge.
  4. That is the dumbest statement you have ever uttered FW. NFoW is 95% private land. Guess you have not fished it much.

    What's Cooking?

Guess I need to go pattern my new turkey choke!
  6. You can’t go wrong with Brian Sloss or Sunburst. Sunburst has new owners, but Brian & Stephanie are top notch. Justin & Amy are still around. It's about a 45 minute trip from one to the other, and about the same to Arkansas. If the fishing is slow on one...easy to day trip to another.
  7. Wow! Shultz & Cottrell are the real deal. 4 4lb + smallmouth and a 6.3lb kicker...That is amazing! What was the length on that beast?
  8. Mill used to produce some big trout in the 1980’s-1990’s. Same with the Little Piney. Drought in the late 1990’s killed Mill Cr. MDC started stocking the L Piney not long after and fishing declined rapidly. Dr. George put the nail in the coffin on Mill when he donated his land to the MDC. The fish get too much pressure at both places now.

    What's Cooking?

Raising spoiled girls, just like us! Wife is facetiming her friend in KC. Both cooking the same thing. Pasta Carbonara with scallops. Was good! Commanders Gumbo? Making some for Marco Gras tomorrow.
  10. Mississippi delta is and environmental disaster these days...It is a death zone. Oil & Gas, Timber, Flooding, Erosion, less rice & more crawfish. Chems & Nastiness running down the Mississippi and bad land use causing coastal erosion. plus global warming...LA has few ducks, less rice, and game fish, oysters & shrimp are in a rapid decline. They are forked..Same with South Florida. Red Tide is killing both coasts.
  11. It sucks to lose your dog. Hang in there!
  12. Have caught an 18” trout out of seven of those streams, 20” + out of 5 of them.. Used to chase those trout allot harder than I do now though (60+ day’s a year for 15ish years). Fish for bass, and hunt more than I trout fish these days.

Great time for the West side!
  14. Camping is great...Sometimes...Hotels suck...Most cabins are bare bones...We like our 32' Bunk House Travel Trailer. A/C or Heat anytime we want it. Great to travel with a rat pack of kids...and the gals have shower and a throne to sit on. It was expensive, and it is allot more work than camping. Trailers need routine maintenance, and tires every couple years.
  15. Have caught fish on all of them...The little 6" trout are not hard to catch...Barren Fork didn't seem to have many fish, but I caught some. Was not worth a return trip, but its really close to Pulltite CG on the Current...Not far from Echo Bluff. Have fished all the others several times..Usually stick to the Current, Eleven Point, & NFOW in that order. Catching little wild trout was a pursuit of mine years ago. They are cute, but the novelty wore off over time. You could fish all of those in a weekend if you wanted too...Has been done.

    What's Cooking?

Chickens are easy to butcher . Takes about 2 minutes to piece one out with skin on. A bit longer if you want to remove the skin, but crispy skin is the best thing on a chicken. Pop the wishbone out first, and do not forget the back oysters.

    What's Cooking?

Nawlins style BBQ shrimps to take to the neighbors.
  18. Pete’s dad Cesar was a great guy. A true conservationist. Miss him.

    Lucky

Take a good picture and frame it. It will last longer than a dust collector.
  20. Done.
  21. Locked my keys in my car there once. Long walk of shame.
  22. Yes, need to hide better in wide open spaces. Dekes are set. Should kill some geese in the next hour our three, pick it up & grab some eats, and done for the season
  23. Been there many times. Used to hike down the lower access at Suicide Hill and walk and fish to the park and back. Only a 5-6 mile round trip. Fishing is usually hit or miss there. Sounds like a better than average day on the Meramec trout water.
  24. If you want a 6wt with a fighting butt you will probably need to wrap it yourself or hire it out. It is not hard to assemble a fly rod. I would recommend Tom Hargrove if you want to go with a custom builder. He will wrap or repair anything, but his signature customs are fantastic.
  25. Get your gun & permits...Still have 6 days left to kill them...Limit 3. Thousands of them in STL right now. Every pond with open water.
