  1. Did the wax rings under the toilets melt?
  2. Wow... That's like suing the police for that one time your house got burgled.
  3. This event happened in 2014. The recent $2M federal fine was the result of the criminal case for violation of the Clean Water Act. Missouri's civil suit over the event was settled in 2015; https://dnr.mo.gov/env/wpp/enf/2015-AOC/docs/TysonFoods.pdf That document answers (part of) Wrench's question about where the money went (for the civil settlement). The $2M for the feds will be a different story.
  4. I've had more fun than any 3 guys deserve. Never understood the 'saving myself for later' thing, there might not be any later. Better to burn out than fade away.
  5. If your unit can sense when there's no transducer and shut the transmitter down to the appropriate port, you'll be fine. Lots of new units do that, especially anything that will network. Older standalones often don't have that ability, so you're trying to transmit a lot of watts to no load... like keying a radio transmitter with no antenna hooked up, something's gonna give.
  6. You were told wrong. No consequences. On the other hand, powering up your sonar with the transducer unplugged could be bad news...
  7. I don't think the mailman wants 'em either.
  8. Cool, Thanks! there's some good old stuff on the Live Music section of the Internet Archive too; https://archive.org/details/etree
  9. I hate to say it, but get used to it, at least for the foreseeable future. The folks in charge of such things at the moment are erasing existing protections as fast as they can, all in the name of business $$$$.

Some years gizzard shad spawn multiple times, creating 'baby' gizzard shad in the fall. It's pretty hard to tell a 1-1/2" gizzard shad from a 1-1/2" threadfin.
  11. "Repeated dots" is a form of punctuation that even I learned in that podunk Mo school I attended. I use them when appropriate too; An ellipsis (plural ellipses; from the Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis, "omission" or "falling short") is a series of dots (typically three, such as "…") that usually indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning. Added; Not that I doubt your sock puppet theory, in fact I assumed it was when I saw it.
  12. Inspired by Ricky Bobby?
  13. Take another look at the USGS document. It gives both sampled and predicted ranges on a map for each species.
  14. Me neither. Looked like a dead end.
  15. I understand your love of catching them on a hook, but when the time is right it's kinda like trying to tunnel into a bank vault the night the teller forgot to lock the door. Gotta make hay when the sun shines... :-)
  16. ++ on the stonerollers as best, shiners a close second. My comments were just to Dan's query of "creek chub/stone rollers/small suckers". Even if you don't know the species well, you can easily tell by holding one in your hand, if it feels like something you could easily swallow whole (texture, not size), it'll work, and slicks (stonerollers) fit that bill best. An added benefit is when it's walleye time, the slicks and shiners will also be heavily congregated in prespawn mode, and easy to get a couple dozen in a single toss of a small net. After losing many traps to thieves, I'll no longer use them.
  17. While we're at it... 4-6" really isn't much of a chub. Even an 18" wally will take bigger ones with relish. Biggest one I remember using was about 10", and it caught an 11lber.
  18. Ha! Chub growing... I'd suggest Viagra... :-)
  19. My buddy from down under didn't have a clue, but Wiki did (condensed); A cork hat is a type of headgear with corks strung from the brim, to ward off insects... ...Movement of the head causes the corks to swing, discouraging insects from swarming around the wearer's head. Might have to try that on my next (warm weather) walkabout.
  20. Cheap 4' cast net at low water crossings. Farm-raised (licensed) bait is all that can be sold in Arkansas, pretty sure Missouri's the same.
  21. The White River Valley Historical Quarterly has enough interesting local information to last you well into decent weather. There's a keyword search that yields many references to Jim Owen, or you can just start with the first issue and read 'em all. Really good stuff!
  22. It was NYE back in '85 or '86 if I recall correctly, I had fishing fever pretty bad and nothing else to do. Loaded the jon boat in the back of my old Datsun and headed to the Sidewalk hole. It was frozen over solid. So was Blue Springs, WEM, HCM, Monte Ne, HBM, PCM, Ventris, LBS, LBN, Indian Creek, and every other dirt road access on the west/north shore I knew back then. Finally found a little open water at Dam Site North, but the ramp was covered with snow. I spent an hour carrying buckets of water to the top of the ramp to thaw out a couple of tracks to the water. Fished till shortly after dark, trolling the edge of the ice and the available shoreline. At one point I could say with complete confidence that I was the only soul on the lake at that moment, because I could see every bit of open water. That's the only satisfaction I got from that trip though, 'cause I never got a bite... No way in hell I'd try that nowadays.
  23. Didn't get any fishin' stuff, but I gave my old, green, Coleman canoe to a good friend's teen boys. Bet I get more enjoyment from them having it than me.
  24. I imagine the settlers that crested the Sierra Nevada range and saw what would later become California had similar thoughts. Look at it now...
