Fellows Lake New Bait Shop
cReekFishin replied to slabstacker's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
You must have some spots nailed down. I've been confined to to fishing from the bank the last couple years and haven't had much luck with any decent sized ones. Planning on getting the kayak out there this year though to find some other areas. -

Crappie fishing at fellows has been terrible the last few years in my experience. I can catch them all day but rarely find any bigger than 6 inches. I feel like the musky have a part in that. Or maybe they need to have a length limit on crappie. I've seen groups of people keeping every crpie they catch, most of which wouldn't be enough to get more than a nugget off of. Anyone else had this experience? -
If you've ever thought about painting your own lures, I've got everything you need to get started. I've decided to sell my entire set up to pursue other hobbies. The lot will come with 2 airbrushes; an iwata HP-CH (originally $250) and a Badger Patriot (originally $100). A small air compressor, 25 different paints, a few blank lures, stencils, stick on eyes, and cleaning kit. I'll even give you a crash course yo get you started. I've got well over $500 in everything. I'm looking to get $250 for everything. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer. For a quicker response shoot me a text at 417-861-6100.

Do you have any beat up baits that need a fresh paint job? Or maybe have a favorite color that you cant find anymore? I can help. I do custom paintjobs on all crankbaits. I can match a hard to find or discontinued color. Or take your idea and make it real. Prices vary depending on difficulty of the paintjob but will generally run around $8-10 per bait. Here are a few examples of work I've done. Feel free to message me on here or text at 417-861-6100 if you have any questions. Thank you

Got some hand injected stick baits and finesse worms for sale. These were made out of some scrap plastic I had. Would like to get $2 a bag (12-16 baits). They come in laminate bags and are scented with java-garlic. I'll post more colors as I make them. I can also make tubes, finesse craws, and beaver style baits in any color upon request. Pm me for details if you're interested.

Who's been after some River springtime smallies yet?
cReekFishin replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in Smallmouth Talk
Fished the Finley a few times in the last week. Caught a few 14-15 inchers. All fat with eggs. Caught them on some hand dipped tubes that I made which made those fish even better. Also caught lots of goggle eye. -
I agree with smallieguy87, using a bigger tube really helps. Learned that for myself this weekend. Was using a bitsy tube and got a couple hooked deep. Switched to some tubes I made at home that were a bit bigger and bulkier, probably 3.5in, and it seemed to fix the problem.

Otters In Fellows?
cReekFishin replied to dembones's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I always see them there, though I thought they were beavers. Occasionally they come up out of nowhere and scare the piss out of you. -
I've ran into this a lot at Fellows. Fishing from the dock on the east end, you get a lot of boaters that will come in and set up shop 50ft from the dock when they have the entire lake to fish. But it's not just boaters. Other bank fisherman have been pretty disrespectful. One instance this spring, my family and I were fishing off the tunnel on the shallow side. There were five of us total, already making it a little cramped. We were doing pretty well, each of us having 5 or so nice crappie in the first hour. Then along came an older man who dropped off his rods and chair on the road at the tunnel and then went to park his car. We thought surely he's not planning on coming down here. Sure enough he plops his chair down right in the middle of us and proceeds to put his THREE lines in without even saying a word to us. Not 30 minutes later another man comes along and asks if he could fish with us. Not wanting to be rude, we just tried hunting that there was not enough room. He didn't get the hint. And he dropped his two lines in. Then another man shortly after butted his way in. By this time there were eight people and 12 lines crammed on this tunnel. Needless to say it was a disaster. We were constantly getting tangled in each others lines. We didn't catch anther keeper the rest of the evening and ended leaving long before we planned to. I know that I don't own the water or the tunnel or any of it. But what happened to respecting others space. Just plain disrespectful.

I was wondering, do all white bass go back to the lake after spawning? Because I've found them in the James as far up as Delaware town (nixa area) in August. Are there some that never return to the lake?
-
Thanks for the report. You can't go wrong with a fluke. My go to bait. My favorite is the Big Bites jerk minnow in watermelon red ghost. Kind of a baby bass color. They're a bit heavier than the Zoom flukes so you can really launch it out there .

Fellows Lake - Any Reports?
cReekFishin replied to fishman's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Been picking up some crappie while bank fishing. There are some that are shallow right now but most are still waiting in deeper water. Went with my family Saturday evening and fished off the tunnels. We caught about 20 between the 3 of us fishing minnows under a bobber about 4 feet deep. Also picked up a couple nice bass on a brush hog including a nice 3 pounder. Unfortunately we got crowded out of our spot or we may have caught more. My sister and her boyfriend showed up to fish with us making 5 of us on the tunnel, which made it a crowded situation already. To my surprise another guy showed up and plopped his chair down right in the middle of us and proceeded to put 3 lines in the water. Kind of disrespectful. After getting tangled in his lines a couple times I was getting really frustrated. Then not 45 minutes later another guy comes along and drops his two lines in. Shortly after anther showed up with a couple lines. That made 8 people fishing the one tunnel, 3 of them with multiple lines in the water. I understand that it's a public lake and there are going to be other fisherman, but when there are already 5 people fishing a 20ft long area, you would think they would have the respect to find another spot. After all this wasn't opening day of trout season. Lol -

Thanks a lot. What part of the lake did you spend most of your time at?
