First Trip to Venice…won’t be the last
nomolites replied to nomolites's topic in U.S.A. - South & West Regions
Actually had Ono(wahoo sashimi)for lunch today, it was fantastic. The biggest was 70, we had another that was 65. I thought that 70 was going to spool me but I finally got him turned, but later handed him off after I wore myself out picking up line. We boated one double, and had multiple hookups a couple other times but couldn’t close the deal. The biggest challenge was the dang sharks…getting the fish in the boat fast was priority one; we were in the clock in rod bent. It’s heartbreaking to have one stolen 30 feet off the stern.. We cleaned the reds ourselves but handed off the sheepshead to the guys at the marina for .45/pound. The wahoo are simple to clean and 80% edible meat…I helped our mate with them when we got in. I didn’t weigh that black drum, but I guesstimate 35-40 - it was everything I had to lift him up that high. We had 8 or ten smaller that we filleted out and they were hard to differentiate from the reds after cooking. Also had a few sand trout and a couple pompano while chasing sheepshead…caught a bunch of lane snapper that were short, triggers, and other junk around those rigs. Had about 2-3 ft and a good current going that day, and I opted to focus on staying in the boat rather than taking pics of the action. It was quite fun as well, like flipping docks at LOZ Mike -
First Trip to Venice…won’t be the last

Inshore we fished with Reel Tite(reeltite.com), and they were quite good. Recommend Boola(owner), Rock, or Jarrod. Offshore we fished with Mexican Gulf(mgfishing.com) and they are first rate. Recommend Capt. Matt and the “Wild Bill”(we fished with) or Capt. Jordan on the “Kimmi“(he was on the big yellowfin and wahoo this week). Both are 42 Freeman’s and comfortable rides. They have a 12 boat fleet and communicate to work the tuna and wahoo quite effectively. Mike -

Have been off the water for a minute, but had this trip booked with friends for fishing the 18th through the 20th; our first day was to be offshore with Mexican Gulf but with the cold front that came in we were blown out. Luckily we were able rearrange and add another inshore day and move the offshore to Tuesday AND add an extra day of fishing to our trip. That worked for me! For those who have not been down to Venice, the fishery is incredible. Pick what you want to catch, and go do it. Yes, my outings were guided…I may someday pull a boat down, but if you don’t know those waters you are asking for trouble. I plan to go back and do a similar itinerary because the catching here was awesome…my right shoulder and arm will need to recover first. We fished inshore for redfish 2 days, sheepshead one day, and wahoo the last. I had 16 reds between 32 and 42 inches, and those will just flat wear you out. Many more overs…the challenge was to catch fish small enough to keep. Our offshore trip started slow and as we lost a number of fish early, but Capt Matt hung with us and we put 6 wahoo up to 70# as well as 4 blackfin over the side in OT trolling crank baits around the rigs at 25 miles. We lost a number of fish and a lot of tackle to sharks, they are just terrible out there right now. Caught two black tips who managed to hook themselves and not cut us off. Just an awesome experience that I hope to repeat.

Those are sexy AF. Not too bulky and in great colors! Mike

If seen bow-fisherman running them on Norfork, often with outboard option for deeper water. They run the fan in the shallows….can sure hear then a good way off. Mike

Or that other contraption… Mike

"Maybe so, but I have flies older than you"

I fished a small muddler(14) in a rock slide lake up in the Rockies in southern CO while on an elk hunt and there were some beautiful large(3-4#) cutthroat that thought that thing was a freshwater shrimp. Best day fly fishing for trout I’ve experienced; have not had that kind of response to one since then. Mike -
Yes we have. This was a probe, and they did get intel from it. We do the same. I still woulda busted it up in Idaho. Mike

Correct, two main species are sativa and indica, with indica being more potent and smelling like skunk. When cultivated as sensemilla(as is the norm with legalization)it will put you in la la land quickly. Mike

Nobody has paid attention to the law in this area for years, and I’ve seen no enforcement. All the old timers walking their dogs just think we have had an invasion of skunks in the last few years. Mike

That’s a good deal! Now she needs a 40 jet, maybe a GPS TM. Nice. Mike -
Bass Pro Rain Gear?
nomolites replied to eyedabassman's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
I did not. I can wear two layers(insulated tee, heavy sweatshirt) comfortably under them; with the jacket on top that is plenty warm for 32 degrees. If it is frigid I wear a waterproof parka with the bibs and two layers beneath. Mike -

Guidewear is comfortable up into the 70’s…would not wear any warmer unless there is a cool rain. Mine are lined, but uninsulated. Mike -

X3 on the Guidewear. Warm, dry, and comfy. The BPS 100 mph used to be comparable…have not checked recently, they may have changed. I wear at the bibs as an outer layer in frigid temps as well as they absolutely stop the wind. Mike -
Love me some shellfish too…. Mike

It’s not too bad on whole muscle meat jerky if you let it soak in good and smoke it. I have not found anything that can make ground meat jerky appealing I do other things - I’m more a fan of sausage for anything I’m going to grind. I’ve been using a lot of stuff from The Sausage Maker recently. Mike

That looks killer Marty! Mike

Looks like long UV polar chenille, and a hybrid catcher. Mike
